On January 12, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology held a press conference on the development of the automobile industry in 2021, and the relevant responsible persons of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers introduced the development of the automobile industry in 2021 and looked forward to the trend of the automobile market in 2022. The person in charge said that China's auto market will continue to grow in 2022, and the total sales of automobiles are expected to reach 27.5 million units, an increase of about 5% year-on-year. Among them, new energy vehicles will reach 5 million. With the release of new production capacity, it is expected that the shortage of automotive chip supply will gradually ease in 2022.
According to Wang Weiming, director of the First Department of Equipment Industry of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, in 2021, China's automobile production and sales were 26.082 million and 26.275 million vehicles, an increase of 3.4% and 3.8% respectively year-on-year, ending the downward trend for three consecutive years, and contributing to the sustained recovery and development of China's industrial economy and stable macroeconomic growth. At the same time, China's new energy vehicles continue to lead the world, with annual new energy vehicle sales reaching 3.521 million units, an increase of 1.6 times year-on-year, ranking first in the world for seven consecutive years.
For the auto market in 2022, Fu Bingfeng, executive vice president and secretary general of the CHINA AUTOMOBILE Association, pointed out that the CAAM has made a basic judgment that the Chinese auto market will continue to grow in 2022. Specifically, China's total automobile sales are expected to reach 27.5 million in 2022, an increase of about 5% year-on-year. Among them, passenger cars will be 23 million units, an increase of 7% year-on-year; commercial vehicles will be 4.5 million units, down 6% year-on-year; new energy vehicles will reach 5 million units, an increase of 42% year-on-year, and the market share is expected to exceed 18%.
Fu Bingfeng said that there will be five positive factors in the auto market next year. First, the long-term fundamentals of China's macro economy will not change, ensuring the sustained growth of the automobile market. Second, the automobile market has great potential and demand is still strong. With the continuous deepening of supply-side reforms, China's automobile production and sales will maintain sustained growth. Third, the normalization of epidemic prevention and control, the market impact brought by the epidemic has gradually weakened. Fourth, with the gradual easing of chip shortages, the supply capacity of automobiles will be further released. Fifth, the market demand for new energy vehicles is strong, further promoting the steady growth of automobile consumption.
In the past decade, China's automobile export volume has been hovering around 1 million vehicles, and in 2021, it exceeded 2 million for the first time, achieving a historic leap. Fu Bingfeng said that China's auto industry is entering a new stage of global development, and in the future, under the promotion of "electrification, networking and intelligence", the automotive industry will continue to actively embrace a new round of scientific and technological revolution, adhere to innovation-driven, accelerate integration into the new development pattern, and become a leader in promoting the transformation and upgrading of the global automotive industry.
Fu Bingfeng said that the world economy continues to recover, and global automobile consumption is also recovering. The transformation and upgrading of Chinese brands has formed advantages, and the supply chain is relatively complete, which can provide competitive products for overseas consumers in a timely manner. Countries represented by Europe and the United States have increased the promotion of new energy vehicles, and new energy vehicles have become a new driving force for China's export growth. A series of factors jointly promote the sustained growth of the overseas development of Chinese brand cars, and it is expected that the growth rate of China's automobile exports will be about 20% in 2022.
For the industry's concern about the lack of "core" in automobiles, Wang Weiming responded that there are many factors affecting the shortage of automobile chips in this round, both the cyclical impact of the chip industry itself, as well as some sudden factors such as the new crown pneumonia epidemic and the fire in the production plant. At present, the world's major chip companies have gradually increased the production and supply of automotive chips, and new production capacity will be released in the second half of this year, and it is expected that the shortage of automotive chip supply will gradually ease in 2022.
In addition, with the accelerated development of new energy vehicles in China, China is also about to usher in the first wave of power battery retirement. Wang Weiming said that in the next step, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will accelerate the study and formulation of the "Management Measures for the Recycling and Utilization of New Energy Vehicle Power Batteries" to increase regulatory binding. Research and establish a linkage mechanism for the control and control of power battery recycling to improve regulatory efficiency. Accelerate the introduction of a number of national and industry standards for the recycling of power batteries, and grasp the implementation of standards. Carry out pilot acceptance of power battery recycling, and select and promote a number of typical models and enterprise case experiences.
