According to the statistics of the Ministry of Public Security, by the end of 2021, the number of motor vehicles in the country will reach 395 million, and the number of scrap cancellations will increase by 23.5 million compared with 2020, an increase of 6.32%. In 2021, there will be 36.74 million newly registered motor vehicles nationwide, an increase of 3.46 million over 2020, an increase of 10.38%.

By the end of 2021, the number of cars in the country will reach 302 million. In 2021, there will be 26.22 million newly registered cars nationwide, an increase of 1.98 million over 2020, an increase of 8.16%. Among them, 4.04 million trucks were newly registered, 120,000 fewer than in 2020, down 2.88%, showing a downward trend. There were 10.05 million newly registered motorcycles, an increase of 1.79 million over 2020, an increase of 21.67%, and maintained rapid growth in the past three years.

There are 79 cities in the country with more than one million car ownership, an increase of 9 cities year-on-year, 35 cities more than 2 million vehicles, 20 cities more than 3 million vehicles, including Beijing, Chengdu, Chongqing more than 5 million vehicles, Suzhou, Shanghai, Zhengzhou, Xi'an more than 4 million vehicles, Wuhan, Shenzhen, Dongguan and other 13 cities more than 3 million vehicles.

By the end of 2021, the number of new energy vehicles in the country reached 7.84 million, accounting for 2.60% of the total number of vehicles, and the amount of scrap cancellation after deduction of scrap cancellation increased by 2.92 million units compared with 2020, an increase of 59.25%. In 2021, the number of motor vehicle drivers in the country reached 481 million, of which 444 million were car drivers, accounting for 92.24% of the total number of drivers. In 2021, the number of newly licensed drivers (driving age less than 1 year) in the country reached 27.5 million, accounting for 5.72% of the total number of motor vehicle drivers in the country, an increase of 5.19 million over 2020, an increase of 23.25%. In terms of driver gender, male drivers reached 319 million, accounting for 66.32%, and female drivers 162 million, accounting for 33.68%.
