Chinese brand passenger car sales in 2021: new forces "big six" vs. traditional car companies "top ten"

On January 9, Changan Automobile announced its vehicle sales for December 2021 and the full year.

According to the data, Changan Automobile sold 2,300,530 vehicles in the whole year, an increase of 14.82% year-on-year; the sales of self-owned brand vehicles was 1,754,707 units, an increase of 16.7% year-on-year; and the sales of self-owned brand passenger cars were 1,204,203 units, an increase of 23.08% year-on-year.

So far, the 2021 sales of passenger car sales of Chinese brand car companies: SAIC, Geely, Great Wall, Changan, Chery, BYD, Dongfeng, GAC, FAW Hongqi and Jiangqi have all been released:

SAIC: 2,693,777 units, up 9.93% y/y (including Wuling, Roewe, MG, and SAIC Maxus brands)

Geely: 1,328,029 units, up 1% y/y (including Geely, Lynk & Co and Extreme Krypton)

Great Wall: 1,280,993 units, up 15.2% year-on-year (including Haval, Euler, Weipai, Tanks, Great Wall Pickup)

Changan: 1,204,203 units, up 23.08% y/y (including Changan and Auchan)

Chery: 848,078 units, up about 42% year-on-year (including Chery, Xingtu and Jietu)

BYD: 730,093 units, up 75.4% y/y

Dongfeng: 542,000 units, up 32.2% y/y (including Fengshen, Fengxing, Fengguang, Lantu, And Cilis)

GAC Motor: 444,356 units, year-on-year growth (including Trumpchi and Aehan)

FAW Hongqi: 300,000 units, up 50% year-on-year

JIANGQI: 252,500 units, up 62.27% y/y (including JAC and Sihao)

(Note: SAIC Motor's total sales of 5,463,500 units, down 2.45% year-on-year; Dongfeng Group's total sales of 3,275,300 units; GAC Group's total sales of 2,144,387 units, up 4.92% year-on-year; Chery Group's total sales of 961,926 units, up 31.7% year-on-year; Jiangqi Group's total sales of 524,224 units, up 15.63% year-on-year; FAW and BAIC Group have not announced the group's total sales)

That is to say, the ranking order of passenger car sales of traditional Chinese brand car companies in 2021 is "Shangji Changqibi Dongguang Yijiang".

SAIC Motor: 732,646 units, up 128.93% year-on-year

BYD: 593,745 units, up 231.6% year-on-year

GAC Motor: 142,853 units, up 77.35% y/y

Great Wall: 136,953 units, up 138.51% year-on-year

Jiangqi Motor: 134,100 units, up 169.12% year-on-year (pure electric passenger cars)

Chery: 109,028 units, up about 42% year-on-year

Geely: 100,126 units, up 47% y/y (including hybrid)

Changan: 70,000 units, up 23.08% y/y (Changan Ben E-Star)
