In the 1970s, China and the Soviet Union fell into a war. The Soviet Union deployed millions of troops on China's northern border, and the pressure on china's northern border for national defense doubled in vain. At the same time, the Soviet Union also supported the Southeast Asian country of Vietnam in an attempt to make our country enemies through its harassment of our southwest border.
In the face of China, the big brother who once gave itself a lot of aid and even helped to repel the United States, Vietnam, instead of feeling a little grateful, aided and abetted the abuse, sent troops to invade our territory, and caused a large number of casualties and property losses to our border residents.
In desperation, our army launched a counterattack of a defensive nature, and in the face of Vietnam, which was unfamiliar with life, our army encountered several sneak attacks, but they were all defused by our army one by one. But there was only one thing, it was completely contrary to humanitarianism, and its cruelty made Zhang Wannian, then the commander of the 127th Division of the 43rd Army, angrily shout that they would be burned to death.
The beginning of the war
As we all know, the counterattack against Vietnam in self-defense lasted only one month and ended in the victory of our army, and this is indeed the case. In the early stage of the war, our army relied on advanced tactical command and firm unity willpower, under the command of General Yang Dezhi and General Xu Shiyou, to attack the eastern and western fronts at the same time, directly penetrating 20-50 kilometers into Vietnam.
Subsequently, in the second stage of the counterattack war, our army still fought on the eastern and western fronts, capturing the five important towns in northern Vietnam, namely Lang Son, Quang Yuan, Sabah, Fengtu, and Pulou, and basically completed the goals set by our army.
At this time, the important towns in northern Vietnam were successively attacked by our army, leaving only Lang Shan isolated and helpless. If Lang Son is breached, it will directly threaten Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. Therefore, Vietnam hastily dispatched troops and gathered the whole country to defend Lang Son. Although the resistance in the Vietnamese positions was fierce, with the differences in tactics and weapons between the two sides, it was only a matter of time before our army broke through Lang Son.
In fact, of course, the Vietnamese side is aware of this problem, but the way Vietnam has responded to this problem is infuriating and has been unanimously condemned by the international community.
Brutal Vietnamese army
In order to win this battle, Vietnam can be said to have adopted various means. Vietnam is almost a soldier for all, and because there are fewer men, the proportion of women in the ordinary army can reach up to half, and because of this, the Vietnamese authorities like to push female soldiers to the front line and act as a shield, which our army cannot tolerate.
Second, the Vietnamese army often confiscated the people's food, forcing them to participate in this brutal battle. Since ancient times, our army has been known for its strict military discipline and has never killed non-combatants, but these ordinary people with guns have caused great trouble to our army.
In addition, it is well known that the Vietnamese army frequently pretended to surrender. During the battle, Vietnam often adopted this tactic, its troops carried white cloth with them, and once the battle line was tight, they immediately pulled on the white cloth and pretended to surrender, gaining the trust of our army, and then quickly counterattacked, which once made our army suffer a great loss.
However, even if Vietnam adopted these inferior means, they were finally defused by our army one by one, but the cruelty of the Vietnamese army was beyond the imagination of our army.
When the 127th Division of our army attacked the important stronghold around Lang Son, the female special task force of the 332nd Division of the Vietnam People's Army went so far as to blatantly violate international law and inhumanely use chemical weapons, which directly led to the death of some of the 127 soldiers of our army.
Fire to the Vietnamese Biochemical Forces
General Zhang Wannian joined the Eighth Route Army in 1944 to participate in the revolution, joined the Communist Party in 1945, and served as the commander of the 127th Division in the 1979 self-defense counterattack against Vietnam.
During the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, Zhang Wannian served as a military adviser for guerrilla warfare in the army. In the later aid to Vietnam and the War against the United States, Zhang Wannian went to Vietnam on behalf of the Chinese army to learn jungle tactics, and thus had a clear understanding of Vietnam's terrain, the army's combat methods, tactics, etc.
As the saying goes, "If you know yourself and know the other, you will never lose a battle." In the early days of the self-defense counterattack against Vietnam, our army suffered great losses due to its unfamiliarity with the Vietnamese terrain and its lack of understanding of the Vietnamese army, but only Zhang Wannian's team bravely marched forward from the early stage of the war and was invincible.
And Zhang Wannian's name also spread thoroughly among our army and the Vietnamese army. Our army called him the "commander of the iron division" and praised him for using soldiers like a god, and the enemy army even gritted its teeth at him, feared and angry, and even shouted out the slogan of "destroy 127 and capture Zhang Wannian alive."
In fact, on the eve of the start of the war, Zhang Wannian repeatedly summoned all the platoon-level cadres in the division, used his many years of experience to lead them to comprehensively analyze the fighting style of jungle warfare, the differences in Vietnam's terrain, the deployment of the army, etc., and even carried out all-round adaptive training, and organized one live-fire drill after another in the middle of the night when it was pouring rain.
However, the battlefield was changing rapidly, and when attacking the county seat of Lu Binh, the Vietnamese actually used chemical weapons against the 127th Division commanded by Zhang Wannian at that time. When Zhang Wannian heard this news, he was furious and shouted directly: "Burn them to death."
Looking at the soldiers on the hospital bed whose lungs were damaged and dying because of inhalation of toxic gases, Zhang Wannian was full of grief and indignation, and secretly made up his mind that he must avenge his brothers.
In response to the disdainful behavior of the Vietnamese army, Zhang Wannian immediately counterattacked, directly sending three regiments and two anti-chemical warfare troops to block the attack. Due to the fact that our army has anti-chemical units, the effect of Vietnam's biological and chemical weapons has suddenly decreased, and in order to avoid the pursuit of our army, the Vietnamese army is mostly hidden in a cave in the jungle.
Faced with this situation, General Zhang Wannian decided to set the cave on fire, and for a time, the smoke from the cave where the Vietnamese army was hiding was billowing, and our army also specially shouted that as long as it was willing to surrender to accept a military trial, our army could not die in humanitarian situation. But the Vietnamese soldiers vowed to die as prisoners, and they were all killed in the fire.

After this campaign, Zhang Wannian stood out and successively served as a military officer, commander, chief of the general staff and other positions, and was awarded the rank of general in 1993.
