During the period of the counterattack against Vietnam, Bian Guixiang was an excellent general in our army, and under his excellent command, the 163rd Division attacked Tongdeng and Kelangshan, and along the way did not relax the morale of the battle, and established many battle achievements at that time. The total number of enemy annihilators totaled 861, the number of killed was 5293, the number of wounded enemies was 530, and 38 enemy prisoners were captured, ranking first among 29 army divisions. In the two battles of Tongdeng and Langshan, more than 600 officers and men of the 163rd Division died heroically on the battlefield, and the number of casualties was very small, but the results obtained were the most outstanding. "After these two battles, not to mention the Vietnamese soldiers, even the Vietnamese cattle encountered the 163rd Division, they had to flee quickly." The warriors later recalled this. It can be seen that the troops led by Bian Guixiang occupy a very important position in this war.

In the process of human development, war is always like a shadow, since there are two armies fighting, there must be soldiers who have failed to be captured, and the identity of prisoners of war is very disgraceful, if they are still captured by enemies who lack humanity, the situation is even more difficult, in contrast, the death of war will appear more painful. For example, when the U.S. and Vietnamese armies confronted each other, U.S. prisoners of war were treated very cruelly by the Vietnamese army. When the Vietnamese captured American soldiers, they physically tortured them. Vietnamese wooden shackles were used to clamp the limbs of captives, render them incapacitated, and after torturing American captives, they were thrown into cells filled with rats, snakes, and mosquitoes.
During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, because of the tolerance and kindness of the Eighth Route Army, many Japanese troops who killed people in the past regretted the crimes they committed, and even more than 1,000 Japanese prisoners of war turned to the Eighth Route Army camp to fight against the Japanese army, but in the self-defense counterattack operation on the Sino-Vietnamese border, there was a PLA division commander named Bian Guixiang who was very strange, and he would rather be punished and demoted than release the Vietnamese prisoners of war.
At that time, the counterattack against Vietnam was not over, but the front line suddenly received an order from the superiors to release the Vietnamese prisoners under the condition that the war had not ended at that time, and the original text of the request at that time read: "Release the Vietnamese prisoners and return the captured materials", and also contacted the interpreter to let them carry out propaganda and explanation to the local people, in this way to expand China's influence on the outside world, not only the Vietnamese people, but also to spread this matter to the whole world, so that everyone knows that our army is a benevolent division, not only will care for the Vietnamese people, He would love every flower and tree in Vietnam, and this order puzzled or even resisted the frontline commanders and fighters. The commander of the Bian Division responded quickly: refusing to release the prisoners, one person doing one thing and one person doing the work, and the foreign military orders were not subjected, and the Bian Division Commander relied on his own strength to resist the heavy pressure until the victory in the counterattack against the Vietnamese self-defense, and the Bian Division Commander released some of the prisoners captured during the war.
When Bian Guixiang was old, no one could have imagined that the great general who had once killed and decisively ordered a thousand armies was actually this unremarkable old man in front of him. Bian Guixiang sat upright all his life, did not collude with the world, even if he had come to the end of his life, he did not change his personality, during the time when he was seriously ill, he told his wife Peng Xiaohua and his children that his "walk" should be quiet, do not make a big fuss, and do not let the organization interfere in this matter. At 10:48 on September 1, 2008, at the General Hospital of the Guangzhou Military Region, Bian Guixiang died at the age of 81, and his family also respected his last wish and did not tell anyone.
After Bian Guixiang's death, his son brought his ashes back and shook them with magnets on them, and with the sound of "ding-ding", three pieces of shrapnel popped out, and these three pieces of shrapnel, which have been inhabiting Bian Guixiang's legs, abdomen and head for decades. And Bian Guixiang's old partner Wu Enqing also left first ten years ago. These two revolutionary heroes have the opportunity to drink wine in heaven and continue their years of war.
