On December 25, 26, Empress Xiaozhuangwen died of illness at the age of 75, according to the ancestral system of the Qing Dynasty, Xiaozhuang, as the empress dowager, should be buried with Huang Taiji after death, but before she died, she asked not to be buried with Huang Taiji.
Some people say that Xiaozhuang made this request to face the Emperor Taiji without face, because she had married Dorgon, saying that Xiaozhuang had married Dolgun, in fact, it was completely speculative, and there was no canonical record, and the basis was only that Dorgon was called "The Emperor's Father Regent", and with the zhengshi prevailing, this reason naturally did not exist.
This gave Kangxi a problem, not to be buried with the Emperor Taiji, then how to bury it, Kangxi was overwhelmed, and finally could only listen to the advice of the minister, ordered her coffin to be placed in the "Temporary An Feng Hall", and did not bury Xiaozhuang until Kangxi's death.
We all know that the Kangxi Emperor had great respect and filial piety for Xiaozhuang, because he was cultivated by Xiaozhuang, in order to express his filial piety, in the old age of Xiaozhuang, Kangxi was afraid that she was lonely and bored, and even gave the prince to her to raise for the first time.
Since this is the case, the Ancient Chinese believed that "the dead are great, and the earth is safe", which is only a request of the old ancestors, is Kangxi planning to never let her be buried? In fact, it was not that Kangxi did not want to, but that he did not dare, not that he did not dare to disobey Xiaozhuang's will, but did not dare to violate the ancestral system.
According to the ancestral system of the Qing Dynasty, even if Empress XiaozhuangWen was not buried with the Emperor Taiji, she had to adopt a tomb of the same size as him, which was actually easy to do, as long as another cemetery was built next to the Qingzhao Mausoleum in Shenyang, but Xiaozhuang also made another request, that is, she did not want to stay away from her children and grandchildren, which meant that she was buried near the Qing Tombs.
The two requirements were combined, Kangxi really did not know what to do, because the Shunzhi Emperor was already buried in the Qing Dongling, his mausoleum specifications must be the highest in the Qing Dongling, if Xiaozhuang was buried in the Qing Dongling, her mausoleum specifications referred to the Emperor Taiji, then higher than Shunzhi, which of course violated the ancestral system.
It was not until the third year of Yongzheng that this problem was solved, and after careful consideration, Yongzheng decided to build a mausoleum in situ in the original place of the "Temporary An Fengdian", which is now the "Zhaoxi Mausoleum", which is outside the scope of the Qing Dynasty Tombs, and the Zhaoling Tombs belong to a system, and the Xiaozhuang Mausoleum was finally buried after 38 years.
