Although in the end most people temporarily chose to submit in front of the butcher's knife, the people's resistance to the rulers of the Qing Dynasty never stopped.
From Wu Sangui, the tu emperor of Yunnan, who enjoyed all the glory and wealth, to the poor people, although the purpose of their "rebellion" was different, they all caused a certain degree of impact on the rule of the Qing Dynasty. Now more and more historians believe that the prosperous kangqian dynasty is just a whitewashed illusion of the rulers of the dynasty, after all, even the period of the western affairs movement in the late Qing Dynasty can be called "Tongguang Zhongxing", and how much gold content this "Kangqian prosperous world" has is even more doubtful.
The three dynasties of Kang Yongqian did not have a single day of peace, the imperial court was fighting every day, and the Qing army was either suppressing the rebellion or on the way to suppressing the rebellion. Among them, there is a "ghost army" that has been passed down for seven hundred years, killing 100,000 troops to sacrifice the flag, and there are millions of believers after the fall of the Qing Dynasty. This event was the famous White Lotus Rebellion, which directly turned the Qing Dynasty from "prosperous" to declining.
Thanks to various film and television works, almost everyone has heard of the White Lotus Sect or its branches. In fact, the history of the White Lotus Sect is very long, can be traced back to the Southern Song Dynasty, 700 years ago the White Lotus Sect and the Qing Dynasty period is naturally very different, taking the route of half-custom and half Buddha, no need to shave hair or wear monk clothes, the teachings are simple and easy to understand, attracting many believers. After several rounds of "financing", the White Lotus Sect was successfully listed and obtained the permission of the Yuan Dynasty imperial court, and its scale reached its peak.
Later, the teachings of the White Lotus Sect began to change, and the rulers of the Yuan Dynasty divided the people into three, six, and nine classes, and the class contradictions were serious, and at the end of the Yuan Dynasty, the "business license" of the White Lotus Sect was revoked, and it became an anti-government force to rebel against the rule of the Yuan Dynasty. In the Ming Dynasty, the White Lotus Sect did not stop, and then created a rebellion in the Ming Dynasty. The Qing Dynasty came, and it was no exception.
Why does the White Lotus Sect like rebellion so much? The reason: the people at that time could not survive, and this was the case in the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties. The serious phenomenon of land annexation in the middle and late period of the dynasty made the peasants' land resources all gathered in the hands of a small number of magnates, and the peasants who had lost their land could only lease land from them and become sharecroppers. In a good year, the people can barely make ends meet, but once the disaster year comes, the peasants can't even pay the rent, and there is no way to survive. Ancient peasant uprisings were often accompanied by famines.
The White Lotus Rebellion during the Jiaqing period turned to 16 provinces, consumed 100,000 troops of the Qing army, and even spent five years of financial revenue of the Qing government, which was more than 200 million silver. It directly shook the foundation of the dynasty and has been in a slump ever since. So why did the White Lotus Sect have so many followers in every rebellion and uprising in the past 700 years?
The White Lotus Sect preaches that "all the assets obtained in the religion are divided equally" and "there are dangers to save each other, there are difficulties to die, and you can go around the world without holding a penny", which is extremely appealing among the people at the bottom, let alone the peasants who have lost their land. Coupled with the White Lotus Sect's pretense of ghosts, the doctrine of the Patchwork can make the bottom-level peasants understand it, just like a ghost army, it is really a hundred responses, cutting wood for soldiers, unveiling poles for flags, the world gathers to respond, win grain and follow the scenery. Even after the fall of the Qing Dynasty, the number of followers of the White Lotus Sect was still very objective.
But is it really the White Lotus Sect that shakes the foundation of the Qing Dynasty's rule? I think of a dialogue at the end of "Wu Zhuangyuan Su Qi'er":
Emperor: You help tens of millions of disciples! If you don't disband for a day, how can you be at ease?
Su Qi'er: How many disciples the beggar gang has is not up to me, but up to you.
Emperor: Me?
Su Qi'er: If you are really wise and divine, so that guotai and the people are safe, the ghosts are willing to be beggars!
