At the age of 18, Teng Jiushou passed two rounds of examinations and joined the Guizhou Army School formed by Wang Wenhua and He Yingqin, becoming one of the first students to enroll, and he mainly studied the artillery section. Teng Jiushou knew that only by training hard and studying hard could he get ahead of the day, so during his time in school, Teng Jiushou spent all his energy on study and training, and after graduating with excellent results, he entered the unit stationed in Guizhou, and successively served as a platoon leader, a company commander, a battalion commander and other positions.
Later, the warlords in Guizhou were in internal chaos, squeezing each other out, and constantly fighting for power and profit, Teng Jiushou did not want to continue to collude with them, his ambition was to serve the country and dedicate his strength. So he set out from Guizhou to Guangzhou, joined the National Revolutionary Army, and displayed his military talents here, winning the weight of his superiors.
When the Songhu War of Resistance broke out, when everyone and the Japanese army were engaged in a fierce battle, the commander of the Wusong Fortress Mouth suddenly resigned, and did not make any resistance to the japanese attack, at this time Teng Jiushou was in danger and took over the task of defending the Wusong Fortress, and under his command, repeatedly repelled the Japanese troops who had hit the doorstep. The battle lasted until the 7th day, when the Japanese launched the fiercest attack on our artillery batteries, sending 24 aircraft, 13 warships, and the mouth of Wusong Fortress was full of bombed deep pits.
And Teng Jiushou as a commander in the army, still stick to his post, during the period the shrapnel hit his shoulder, the blood flowed non-stop, the hygienist simply dealt with it, he persuaded him to go to the back to rest first, but Teng Jiushou was an iron-boned man, insisting on minor injuries not in the line of fire, in the rain of bullets, he firmly said: "My generation of soldiers, with the responsibility of defending the country and the people, quickly shelled the enemy, and those who retreated were shot!" ”
Word by word like a stone smashed on the ground, but also became his last words, Teng Jiushou's voice just fell, the right armpit was attacked by enemy shells, the right hand was instantly blown up, coupled with shrapnel penetrated his chest and abdomen, causing him to bleed, and finally sacrificed his life for the country, sacrificing at the age of 33. Because of the tense battle at that time, the subordinates could only simply wrap his body and bury it on the spot. It was not until the end of the battle that his body was recovered and buried in the Yong'an Cemetery in Shanghai, and he was posthumously awarded the rank of major general, becoming the first senior general of the Nationalist army to die.
It is sad that General Teng Jiushou's wife and children lost their living support after the fall of Shanghai due to the war, and Teng Jiushou's wife had to take her three children and returned to her hometown after many hardships until her death in 1975.
