Song Lanjun, a native of Junan County, Shandong Province, was born in 1926 in an extremely poor family, and it was precisely because he was so poor that his father thought he could not support the child, so he did not give him a name.
When he was 8 years old, his father died of poverty, and his mother took him and his brother to remarry in another village. However, the stepfather beat them in every way, and the mother could not say anything bitterly, there was no way, Song Lanjun could only take her brother back to the old house and live a life without a meal.
Later, one of the village landlords brought Song Lanjun to his house, and his brother also went to another landlord's house, where he worked as child laborers and had food to eat.
At the age of 17, in 1943, the Eighth Route Army recruited soldiers in his hometown, and he did not hesitate to sign up. But when the recruiter asked him for his name, he said he didn't have a name.
The conscripts were also puzzled, but after learning about his experience, they immediately decided to accept him into the army and gave him a name: Song Lanjun.
After joining the army, Song Lanjun quickly got the experience, participated in many battles against Japan, fought very bravely, became a famous combat hero in Shandong, repeatedly honored with first-class merit and second-class merit, and grew from a soldier to a platoon leader.
In 1950, Song Lanjun entered the Korean War with his troops and became famous in the Battle of Jixiong Mountain.
In the summer of 1951, the United Nations army led by the United States launched a summer offensive, and Song Lanjun's regiment was ordered to hold Jixiong Mountain, and Song Lanjun was tasked with a small highland on the front of Jixiong Mountain. This was no ordinary task, because he had only 32 men in a platoon, and he had to deal with a battalion of 287 Men, plus 20 artillery pieces and 16 tanks.
The first charge of the US army soon came, and the powerful artillery fire blew Up Song Lanjun's position beyond recognition, and then, more than 100 enemy cats hid behind the tanks and rushed up, Song Lanjun calmly commanded, first leading people to kill the tanks, and then ordering the whole platoon to attack with two grenades per person, as a result, the US troops were blown up and cried, leaving more than 30 corpses to flee down the mountain.
Soon after, the second U.S. offensive was launched, and more than 100 people rushed up under the cover of 4 tanks. However, no matter how fierce the enemy's firepower was, it could not match the heroism of our army, and Song Lanjun led the whole platoon to swear to coexist and die with the position, and once again beat down the US army. However, this time, the casualties of our army were also very large, and 4 squad leaders and 3 soldiers died heroically.
In the following time, in order to take this small mountain bag, the enemy was eager to blow up the place, the rubble turned into scorched earth, and the trees on the mountain had nothing but black trunks. However, Song Lanjun and the warriors still firmly held here, repelling the enemy's large and small attacks countless times, but there were fewer and fewer comrades around them, and when the team that replaced them was handed over to them, Song Lanjun only had 6 people left in the whole platoon.
In this battle, Song Lanjun held his position for 17 days and nights, annihilated 235 enemy troops, blew up 8 tanks, and won a big victory!
After the battle, Song Lanjun was awarded the title of "Second-Class Hero" by the Volunteer Army Headquarters for special merit, and returned to China as a representative of the Volunteer Army hero to participate in the ceremony, and was personally received by the leaders.
In his later years, Song Lanjun recalled: "It is said that people are not afraid of death, but this sentence is not true for soldiers who have been on the battlefield, and in the case of being sacrificed or seriously injured at any time, you are not even afraid of death." On the battlefield, where guns and bullets are raining down and artillery fire is incessant, watching the comrades who are like brothers fall one by one, there is only one belief in their minds: take the position! Several times I forgot the pain and only knew how to rush forward with the machine gun. ”
