First, let's talk about the history of Sichuan and Guizhou provinces. Both provinces belong to the southwest and have deep roots. The geological structure of the border area between the two provinces is complex and basically connected. In ancient history, both provinces gave birth to brilliant civilizations. In the 13th century, the Yuan Dynasty in the north rose rapidly, and in a few decades, it successively eliminated a series of regimes such as the Western Xia Kingdom, the Western Liao State, the Great Jin Kingdom, the Dali State, and the Southern Song Dynasty, and established a dynasty with an unprecedented area.
However, with the expansion of the territory, the Yuan Dynasty also had times of worry. Faced with hundreds of state capitals and thousands of counties across the country, the Yuan Dynasty had never encountered such a problem, and it was a bit dazed. During the Tang and Song dynasties, the two-level division of prefectures and counties was not suitable for the Yuan Dynasty. Whether it is the 15 roads of the Tang Dynasty or the 23 roads of the Song Dynasty, they all belong to the supervision area. The Yuan Dynasty combined the structure of the 23rd Road of the Song Dynasty, and on the basis of passing through the Xingshang Shutai, the Yuan Dynasty launched a super enhanced version, that is, the provincial system.
The Yuan Dynasty divided the country into 10 provinces, such as Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces, Liaoyang provinces, and so on. At that time, Sichuan Province had already been established, but Guizhou Province had not yet been established. However, the regional pattern of Sichuan Province in that year was very different from that of Sichuan Province now. Although the Yuan Dynasty established a provincial system, there were many problems in various aspects, the management structure was simple, and the regional division was not reasonable. In 1368, Zhu Yuanzhang, who was born in the Red Turban Army, established the Ming Dynasty. On the basis of the provinces of the Yuan Dynasty, further improve the provinces.
During this period, Guizhou Province and other provinces were established. As of the reign of Zhu Di, the ancestor of Ming Chengzu, because the Ming Dynasty had two capitals in the north and the south, it gradually formed a regional pattern of two capitals and one thirteen provinces. It has to be said that the basic outline of many provinces in China was established during the reign of the Ming Dynasty, such as Zhejiang Province, Fujian Province, Guangdong Province and so on. However, at that time, Guizhou Province was not large, mainly because the Northern Qianbei region was completely different.
In the 17th century, after the Qing Dynasty established its own rule, it further improved the division on the basis of the Provinces of the Ming Dynasty. Eventually, a pattern of division of eighteen inland provinces was formed. Within a few decades, the Qing dynasty eliminated a range of external threats. In 1722, after the Yongzheng Emperor came to power, he focused his main energy on governing internal problems. The northwestern Dzungars were wild and difficult to tame, but it was impossible to shake the Qing Dynasty. First of all, policies such as dividing the land into acres and returning fire consumption to the public have indeed reduced the burden on the masses.
In the southwest region, the problem of the actual occupation of the toast departments in the southwest is addressed. The Yongzheng Emperor proposed a policy of returning land to the country, and appointed his confidant Ortai to the southwest to serve as the governor of Yunguigui, with full authority for southwest affairs. During his work in the southwest, Ortai made a series of mistakes in favor of the southwest, such as mining, salt tax and so on. However, the masses across Sichuan had a very bad impression of Ortai because Ortai "deeply hurt" the land of Bashu.
Under the impetus of Ortai, a large area of Usa Province, Wumeng Province, Dongchuan Province, Zunyi Province, which was originally subordinate to Sichuan Province, was divided into Guizhou Province and Yunnan Province. For example, Zunyi City in Guizhou Province and Zhaotong City in Yunnan Province were included in this period. In 1912, the Qing Dynasty, which had ruled for more than 200 years, collapsed, and China entered a period of warlord chaos. From the end of the Qing Dynasty, Chongqing, which was subordinate to Sichuan Province, rose rapidly and gradually became an important land and water hub city in the southwest.
In 1937, the Japanese army launched the Lugou Bridge Incident. During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, due to the successive loss of Nanjing, Wuhan and other cities, Chongqing was promoted to a special city and became the base camp of the War of Resistance. At that time, the special city was similar to the current municipality, but not exactly the same. In the blink of an eye, in the early days of the founding of the People's Republic of China, Chongqing was promoted to a municipality directly under the central government, becoming one of the more than 10 municipalities directly under the central government in the country. At that time, in addition to going north to Tianzhong, Shenyang, Wuhan, Guangzhou and other cities were also temporarily upgraded to municipalities directly under the central government.
As for Sichuan Province, due to limited transportation and communication conditions, coupled with the problem of banditry in the southwest region. Sichuan Province is divided into four administrative districts: Northern Sichuan, Southern Sichuan, Eastern Sichuan, and Western Sichuan. The administrative district belongs to the temporary division of the 1950s, which is equivalent to a province. In addition to these several administrative districts, China has also set up a brigade headquarters area, a northern Anhui provincial office area, and so on.
In the early 1950s, with the end of the war, China entered the stage of post-war reconstruction and economic development, all aspects of the work were fully rolled out, and a series of projects began to be built. Sichuan Province is an important province in the southwest region, the status is very important, too complicated regional divisions, but not conducive to economic construction. Therefore, in 1952, the four administrative districts including northern Sichuan were abolished and Sichuan Province was reorganized. At the same time, Chongqing was abolished and demoted to a sub-provincial city, under the administration of Sichuan Province.
This series of zoning adjustments was originally a problem within Sichuan Province and had nothing to do with Guizhou Province. But in 1953, in the Nantong area of Chongqing City, Sichuan Province, huge reserves of iron ore and coal were discovered. Coal mines, in particular, have reserves of more than 300 million tons. In the process of economic construction, steel, coal, oil and other resources are indispensable. In order to exploit the local iron and coal resources, a series of zoning adjustments began. First of all, some townships around several special districts in Sichuan Province were included in the Nantong Mining Area.
As the mining area grows larger, the area of the jurisdiction is obviously insufficient. Therefore, in 1955, 17 townships in Tongzi County, Guizhou Province, were included in the Nantong Mining Area of Chongqing City. I have to say that 17 townships together, the area is not small. Some relatively small counties actually administer more than 10 townships. In 1993, with the needs of economic development, the Nantong Mining Area in Chongqing was renamed Wansheng District. In 1997, Chongqing Municipality and Sichuan Province separated and once again became a municipality directly under the central government.
Therefore, the 17 townships in Guizhou Province at that time were included in Sichuan Province. However, after Chongqing and Sichuan separated, they were under the administration of Chongqing Municipality. In fact, there are many adjustments to the zoning of resource cities, such as Panzhihua City in Sichuan Province, Shuifu County-level City in Yunnan Province, etc., which are all of this type.
