The Battle of Shangganling was a campaign fought by the Chinese Volunteer Army and the United Nations Army in and around Shangganling, and the intensity of the battle was the most intense in the Second World War, and the Volunteer Army fought with the coalition forces for 43 days. And it was in this battle that our hero Huang Jiguang was sacrificed.
Huang Jiguang was born in 1931 in Zhongjiang County, Sichuan Province, where his father died at a very young age. Forced to make a living, the 10-year-old Huang Jiguang worked in the landlord's home, and Huang Jiguang, who had been exploited by the landlord since childhood, decided that when he grew up, he must work hard for the poor people to turn themselves around.
In 1949, Huang Jiguang's hometown was liberated, and he actively participated in the "Struggle against Bandits and Hegemony" and was elected as the leader of the Children's League. In 1950, when the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea began, Huang Jiguang signed up for the Volunteer Army. After joining the army, Huang Jiguang crossed the Yalu River with his troops and came to the Korean front. At that time, Huang Jiguang was a correspondent of the 6th Company of the 2nd Battalion of the 135th Regiment of the 15th Army.
In 1952, the Battle of Shangganling began. Before the war, Huang Jiguang received a letter from his mother. The letter said: "The life of the family is now living well, there is no shortage of anything, as long as you are good, you can get a good reward for meritorious service." After reading the letter, Huang Jiguang darkly decided that he must kill the enemy and make meritorious contributions and strive to join the party.
After the battle began, Huang Jiguang's battalion fought fiercely with the "United Nations Army" for four days and nights, and then captured 3 positions in succession, and when they captured the "Zero" position, they were hindered. If the position is not captured quickly, it will delay the timing of the entire battle. At this critical moment, Huang Jiguang thought of his determination to make meritorious contributions, so he stepped forward and asked to take on this task. He also wrote in the letter of determination: "Resolutely complete the tasks assigned by the superiors, strive to make meritorious contributions to become heroes, and join the party at an early date." "
Seeing Huang Jiguang's full confidence, the battalion chief of staff appointed him as the squad leader of the 6th squad, took the grenade, and led two soldiers to climb towards the enemy's fire point. Just over thirty meters away from the enemy's fire point, one soldier was killed and another was seriously wounded. Huang Jiguang was also hit in the left shoulder by the bullet. But Huang Jiguang did not flinch, he endured severe pain and continued to climb forward.
When it was only ten meters away from the enemy's fire point, Huang Jiguang raised the grenade in his hand and threw it at the enemy, but because the fire was too fierce, it only destroyed half of it, and Huang Jiguang also fainted because his injuries were too serious. When he woke up, the sky was about to light, at this time Huang Jiguang did not have any weapons, and seeing that the enemy's machine guns were still strafing, he did not hesitate to get up from the ground, open his arms, and block the machine gun muzzle. In an instant, the comrades were stunned, and before the company commander could give the order, they rushed up and retook the position.
After the battle, Qin Jiwei, commander of the Fifteenth Army, received these battle heroes. He shouted loudly, "Is Huang Jiguanglian's people coming?" Yet there was silence all around, and no one answered him.
Huang Jiguang used his life to open the way forward for the victory of the war, and his deeds were forever praised by the people. He is a hero of the people and a hero of the motherland. After his death, his superiors posthumously recognized him as a member of the Chinese Communist Party on the basis of his application during his lifetime.
