202 BC. In October, Liu Bang marched east, worshiped Han Xin as a general, and secretly crossed Chen Cang (present-day east of Baoji City, Shaanxi), named Emperor Yifa funeral, sent people to contact the princes, publicly denounced Xiang Yu, and opened the prelude to the Chu-Han War.
The two armies fought at Guling (固陵, northwest of present-day Huaiyang), and Xiang Yu won a small victory. Liu Bang enlisted Han Xin, Peng Yue, and Tuobu with a reward, and finally ended the four-year Chu-Han War by inflicting heavy damage on the Chu army in the next battle, forcing Xiang Yu to kill himself at Wujiang (present-day Anhui and County).
In the next battle, Xiang Yu's army had gone, and Xiang Yu killed himself on the bank of the Wu River, when he was 31 years old. Because Liu Bang rewarded Xiang Yu with a heavy sum of money, the generals of Liu Bang's army besieging Xiang Yu rushed to snatch Xiang Yu's body first, and it is said that hundreds of people died and injured countless people in this internal friction, and finally the victory and defeat were divided. There were five people, each of whom received a part of Xiang Yu's body, and these five people were Yang Xi, Lü Matong, Lü Sheng, Yang Wu, and Wang Feng. Liu Bang then gave them a heavy reward:
Wang Feng, who cut off Xiang Yu's head, was given the title of Marquis of Duyan;
Yang Wu, who obtained Xiang Yu's right foot, was given the title of Marquis of Wu;
Lü Sheng, who cut off Xiang Yu's left arm, was made the Marquis of Neiyang;
Yang Xi, who received Xiang Yu's left leg, was given the title of Marquis of Chiquan.
Lü Matong, because his hands and feet were a little slower, eventually got some fragments of Xiang Yu's bones and was given the title of Marquis of Zhongshui.
After Xiang Yu's death, Liu Bang changed all of Xiang Yu's descendants to Liu. People in the world have two completely different interpretations of Liu Bang's contrivance: on the one hand, they believe that Liu Bang is too vicious, xiang yu has repeatedly let him have a way to live, but he will take revenge after Xiang Yu's death, and even Xiang's surname will be extinguished, thus completely breaking the incense of the Xiang clan; on the other hand, although Liu Bang killed Xiang Yu, he did not exterminate his clan in his past love with Xiang Yu, and in order to prevent Liu Bang's own future generations from destroying the Xiang clan, he gave all the Xiang clan the surname of "Liu", and also treated the Xiang Yu clan who changed "Xiang" to "Liu".
