At the time of the Christmas and New Year holidays in Europe and the United States, Alfa Romeo also released the New Year film on the spot. In the film, Alfa Romeo's first PHEV plug-in hybrid SUV model Tonale was also quietly exposed, which can be regarded as a small Christmas gift for fans. According to French media L'Automobile Magazine, Tonale will be officially released as soon as early June 2022, and not only PHEV-powered and pure fuel-powered versions are expected to appear.
The Tonale Concept debuted at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. As Alfa Romeo's second SUV, Tonale will not only adopt PHEV power for the first time, but also create a visual impression of the existing family silhouette in its interior design. From the last few seconds of the film, it can be seen that the design of the production version of Tonale in the LED taillight group inherits the beautiful curves of the concept car like water ripples, and adopts the popular through-channel design, which also allows Tonale to look from the rear, with a very different impression from Stelvio.
Since alfa Romeo's FCA Group has been merged with the PSA Group into the Stellantis Group, it is speculated that Tonale will use the same PHEV power configuration as the Jeep Compass 4xe of the same group, and if the final original factory does use the same power as predicted, it is foreseeable that the Tonale PHEV will have a maximum horsepower of 190 or 240 horses, and provide drive options such as front drive and four zones.
In terms of the positioning of the small and medium-sized crossover SUVs, Tonale's main opponents will probably be Audi Q3 Sportback, BMW X2 and Mercedes-Benz GLA and other car series. However, the detailed body specifications will not be determined until Alfa Romeo is officially announced.
