From a realistic creative perspective and romantic techniques, "Dayu Zhishui" tells the story of Dayu, the ancestor of China, who made great efforts to govern, sacrificed his life and forgot his death, united all the people, and managed floods. The play specially invited playwright Liu Ying as a screenwriter, excellent young director Ma Yanwei as a director, national first-class stage art designer Tang Guowen as a stage designer, to create a first-class creative team, in the study of history and traditional culture, in the practice of seeking breakthroughs, after several months of tempering and polishing, so that the whole play puppets are one, the content of the main purpose is clear, magnificent, the stage presents a beautiful, conveying the artistic pursuit of Shouzheng innovation, highlighting the fresh artistic personality of Hunan Cane Puppet Show.

Since its inception, "Dayu Zhishui" has adhered to the concept of "shouzheng innovation" and focused on polishing the theme and performance method. The play pays attention to the aesthetic needs of children and teenagers, takes the folklore of Dayu Zhishui as the mother, and does its best to complete, humanize and dramatize the story of "Water Control", accurately conveying the spiritual strength of Dayu She's life and death, single-mindedly serving the people, selfless and fearless, wisdom and courage. At the same time, on the basis of inheriting the traditional Hunan cane puppet show expression, the whole drama absorbs a variety of artistic expressions and integrates performance methods such as "puppets on the same stage", so that the whole play produces a strong artistic effect.
The play was selected as a key support work for the "Stage Art Creation Project Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Founding of the Communist Party of China" and was funded by the National Arts Fund for the creation of large-scale stage plays and works in 2020.
