The legend of the Carp Leaping Dragon Gate occurred in Longmen Town, Hancheng City, Shaanxi Province, and was passed down from generation to generation in the local area and spread to all parts of the country. Longmen, also known as "Yumen Gate", is the narrowest part of the Jinshan Grand Canyon, east and west Yumen Mountain up to 900 meters high, like two portals to the Yellow River tightly sandwiched in the middle, known as "the Yellow River line up in the sky, two mountains suddenly open screen" said. Legend has it that after Da Yu Zhishui chiseled open the dragon gate, he looked at the steep cliffs on both sides of the river and the terrain was dangerous, taking the meaning of "only the dragon can be crossed", and named this place "Dragon Gate". A group of carp in the East China Sea heard the news and came to the bottom of Yumen Mountain day and night. Da Yu was overjoyed at the sight and said, "The fish dragon was originally of the same species, and jumping on the dragon gate is a dragon." "The carp practiced hard for seven days and forty-nine days, and one by one they jumped on the dragon gate they longed for day and night, got the big Yu Zhu pen point, and transformed into a dragon. To this day, the local old man also said that those who fish on the Yellow River will be released immediately if they catch carp with red fish on their heads. Because the "carp leaping dragon gate" contains the meaning of "qingyun gets the way, the change soars", it later became a symbol of the reader's examination, and the folk called the examination leader "carp leaping dragon gate", and the common people also called the leap in life or career success as "carp leaping dragon gate". In 2013, the legend of the Carp Leaping Dragon Gate was included in the fourth batch of intangible cultural heritage list of Shaanxi Province.
