However, the history of the Xia Dynasty was not recognized by the world, and in the face of conclusive cultural evidence, any text in the history books seemed so pale and weak, and later, even the "water" of Dayu Zhi was suspected not to be the Yellow River.
According to the "History of Xia Benji", when Yao was emperor, the yellow river flooded, and the raging yellow river flooded the banks of the river, flooding countless crops and houses, causing the displacement of the people and bringing serious disasters. Therefore, in order to eliminate the flood, Yao gathered all the ministers to discuss the strategy of controlling the water. At this time, everyone recommended to Yao (both known as Cangke), which had a high reputation among the tribes, and if he had intervened, it was believed that the flood would soon subside.
Therefore, Yao listened to the advice of the courtiers and appointed Cang as the leader of the flood control (and those who are not virtuous, may the emperor try it). However, although in the "Records of History", Cang is Yao's subordinate, in the "Classic of Mountains and Seas", Cang is not Yao's subordinate. According to the Classic of Mountains and Seas, "Emperor Huan stole the emperor's land to flood the land, and did not wait for the emperor's orders, and the emperor ordered Zhu Rong to kill Yujiao." "It can be seen that the carp is a god in the heavens, just like the descendants, and the reason why he went down to the mortal world was only to help the people control the flood.
However, his nether realm did not have the permission of the Heavenly Emperor, which was his personal behavior and would definitely be punished in the future. Moreover, when he went to the Netherworld, he also stole a treasure, the soil. It is a sacred soil that can spawn endless soil, and it is most appropriate to use it to control floods. Unfortunately, although The Carp's intentions were good, his actions caused the expected tragedy. In any book, in the end, The Carp failed to cure the flood, and his method of curing the symptoms rather than the root cause caused the flood to rise higher and higher, resulting in the same evil consequences as before.
After His death, Dayu took on the heavy responsibility of controlling the flood, but he adopted a completely different method of evacuation from his father: drainage. Whenever he went to a place that needed to be diverted, he would mobilize the local tribes to work together, and he would eat and live with the people, share happiness and hardship, and accumulate a good reputation. After 13 years, Dayu completely tamed the flood, the river lost its former arrogance and slowly flowed eastward, and the crops that had been flooded by the water were once reborn in the hands of the working people.
For thousands of years, the legend of Dayu Zhishui has been passed down from generation to generation, and to this day, it is still the crystallization of the wisdom of the ancients. However, Sun Weidong, a professor at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, put forward a different point of view: according to the Classic of Mountains and Seas, perhaps the river governed by Dayu is not the Yellow River, but the Nile. There is a description of the source of the river in the original text: the river flows out of the northeast corner to travel to the north, and the southwest enters the Bohai Sea, and then goes out of the sea, that is, west and north, into the Jishi Mountain led by Yu.
It can be seen that the corresponding terrain of this river is high in the south and low in the north, which is completely inconsistent with the geographical characteristics of the Yellow River Basin, and the terrain through which the Nile passes coincides with the record in the book: the White Nile first flows north for hundreds of kilometers, passes through a "several" shape bend and then flows south, and finally flows into Lake Victoria, which is the "Bohai Sea" contained in the book. However, regarding the authenticity of the book "Classic of Mountains and Seas", the academic community has not been conclusive, some can find the prototype in reality, some are illusory, and there is still to be further discussion on whether the water governed by Dayu is the Yellow River.
