In ancient times, there was once a Xia clan in the land of China, and the earliest documented member of the Xia clan was a man named Cang. In the "Chinese Zhou Yu", it is said that Because he was sealed in Chong, he was named "Chongbo Cang" because he was the leader of the Xia clan. Later, Cang was promoted by other tribes to control the flood, but for nine years there was no success, and was sent by Emperor Yao to zhu Rong to kill Yushan.
After His death, his son Yu succeeded his father to volunteer to control the water, and finally solved the flood, enslaved to the four sides, was granted by Emperor Shun, inherited the status, and took Yangcheng as the capital, with the state name Xia. In the "History of Xia Benji", it is recorded that "Yu then became the son of heaven, facing the world in the south, and the name of the country was Xia Hou, and his surname was Ji Shi. "This is the first recorded hereditary dynasty in Chinese history.
After Yu's death, he passed the throne to his son Qi, changing the Zen concession system of the primitive tribe, and the "family world" of Chinese history began. The Xia Dynasty passed on a total of 14 dynasties and 17 emperors. In 1600 BC, the last emperor of the Xia Dynasty was brutal and unkind, and finally defeated in the Battle of Mingtiao, and the Xia Dynasty was replaced by the Shang Dynasty, which lasted 472 years.
The Xia Dynasty was the first dynasty in Chinese history, but there is a lack of historical information about the Xia Dynasty, and china has not unearthed xia dynasty relics and Xia dynasty scripts, so many foreign scholars, even Chinese literati like Hu Shi and Guo Moruo, think that the Xia dynasty may not exist.
The Shang Dynasty can prove the existence of the Shang Dynasty because of the oracle bones excavated from the Yin Ruins, but the Xia Dynasty is like a mirror flower and water moon, which has been painstakingly searched by archaeologists, but it has not been found. The earliest documentary records about the Xia Dynasty are in the Book of Shang of the Zhou Dynasty, and later Sima Qian's "History of Xia Benji" also records a complete lineage of the Xia Dynasty, but these records are some distance away from the time of the existence of the Xia Dynasty, and their authenticity cannot be verified.
Historians, based on literature, believe that the Xia Dynasty existed in an area, possibly in present-day western Henan or southern Shanxi. In 1959, the investigation of "Xia Hui" was launched, which opened the prelude to the exploration of Xia culture. In the decades-long archaeological excavation work, the "Erlitou Culture" and the "Longshan Culture" are considered to be the main objects of exploration of the Gexia culture. The "Erlitou Site" is also thought to be the site of the legendary Xia Dynasty, but this claim needs to be constantly examined.
Archaeological work on the Xia Dynasty has been going on for more than 60 years and will continue. Whether the history of the Xia Dynasty is real, exaggerated facts, or illusory, this requires serious archaeological results to corroborate how civilized the land of China in this period was.
