With the introduction of the country's emphasis on red tourism and the introduction of relevant favorable policies, the development foundation of red tourism has been continuously improved and the development momentum has become increasingly strong. As of 2021, China has basically established a red scenic spot management system with Chinese characteristics with the "National Red Tourism Classic Scenic Spot" as the core. The number of red tourism trips in the country increased from 140 million in 2004 to 1.41 billion in 2019, achieving a 10-fold increase, accounting for more than 1/4 of the domestic tourism industry.

According to the Blue Book, since the beginning of this year, the tourism market has ushered in a recovery, and various long holiday red tourism is highly sought after. During the Qingming Festival holiday, with the theme of "Guardian • 2021 Qingming Sacrifice of Heroic Martyrs", commemorative activities such as tomb sweeping and commemoration of heroic martyrs have been carried out all over the country, and red tourism has become the first choice for most tourists. During the "May Day" period, red tourism once again set off a boom, and the number of red tourists exceeded the same period in 2019. During the National Day period, the popularity of red routes, red scenic spots, red tourism products and so on has reached a new high, and famous red tourist destinations such as Shanghai, Yan'an, Shaoshan and Jinggangshan have become the first choice for travel.
All localities carried out activities around the theme of celebrating the centenary of the founding of the Party, combined with red tourism. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism, together with the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee, launched the "100 Fine Routes for Red Tourism in the Centenary of the Founding of the Party", connecting the main red tourist attractions in the country into a line with the three themes of "reliving red history and inheriting the spirit of struggle", "approaching the heavy weapons of a big country, feeling the power of China", and "experiencing the achievements of poverty alleviation and helping rural revitalization". Various red scenic spots such as the Memorial Hall of the First Congress of the Communist Party of China in Shanghai, the Memorial Park of the Long March of the Central Red Army in Yudu, Jiangxi, and the Memorial Hall of the Xiangjiang Campaign of the Long March of the Red Army in Guilin have launched various forms of red-themed activities, attracting tourists from all over the country to visit and visit. The Shanghai Museum of Natural History has deeply excavated the regional red resources and held red tourism activities with scientific and technological elements such as red choruses, red keynote speeches, and scientific experiment shows, which have attracted the participation of many tourists, especially young people.
At present, party members and teenagers are the core customer group of red tourism. Relevant statistics show that in 2019, the national red tourism classic scenic spots received nearly 100 million tourists and party members under the age of 14, accounting for more than 25% of the total number of tourists. According to a sample survey conducted by the Blue Book Research Group, among the tourists participating in red tourism in 2020, about 50% of the young and middle-aged people aged 25 and below are young and middle-aged.
Red tourism has also led to the overall development of the local social economy. According to the relevant statistics of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the national red tourism income in 2019 was as high as about 400 billion yuan, and the classic scenic spots absorbed an average of more than 15,000 employed people per month, increasing the income of local residents and providing many jobs.
According to the "National Red Tourism Classic Scenic Spots List" released by the state, there are 300 classic scenic spots and 18 key red tourist cities in the country, covering the hometowns of great people, revolutionary ruins, martyrs' tombs/cemeteries, revolutionary memorial venues, red intangible cultural heritage and other types. On this basis, 12 "key red tourism areas" have been cultivated and formed, such as the Zhejiang-Shanghai Red Tourism Zone, the Xianggan-Fujian Red Tourism Zone, and the Left and Right River Red Tourism Zone.
