About the Author

Huang Jin

Born in 1940 in Hebei, Huang Jin, an old man who settled in Hong Kong in 1993, is now the president of the Hong Kong Association of Gongbi Painters. In the early years of painting flowers, birds and landscapes, since 1998, specializing in the special topic of painting horses, after nearly ten years of hard practice, finally broke through the tradition, changed the style of the predecessors to paint horses, used the color of the whole body to express the structure of the horse, capture the spirit of the horse, and successfully explored a new form of horse painting language.

Chinese horse painting art, with a long history, has its own system as early as the Tang Dynasty and has its own unique achievements. Since the Han and Tang Dynasties, Chinese painting has actively absorbed foreign strengths and has always maintained its own distinctive characteristics in continuous innovation and continuous development. Nanqi Sheikh put "vivid rhyme" at the top of the six laws, and painters of all generations have also used the dialectical thinking of "foreign teacher creation" and "winning the heart in the heart" to guide the creative practice.

Huang Jin, an old man of Hulu, lies in the spirit of innovation and is a courageous practitioner of the exploration of national art, and his works show the traditional atmosphere and the expression of the concept of the times.

Mr. Huang Jin was born in 1940 in a small village on the shore of The River in Hebei Province, his grandfather was a gentle elder, in addition to farming, he often led craftsmen to build farmhouses, and every time on the white gray wall of the newly built courtyard, he was invited by his master to paint several ink paintings on topics such as lotus kingfisher, reed crab, looking back at The Blessing, and Hehe Erxian . Under the influence of his grandfather, Mr. Huang liked to draw when he was a child, and after graduating from junior high school, he began to engage in art work, successively doing commercial painting, stage art, decoration advertising, etc., and did not start to carry out systematic self-study of Chinese painting in the 1970s.

Moving to Hong Kong in the early 1990s, he broadened his horizons at the intersection of Chinese and Western cultures, preserving the traditions of Western art and clearly thinking and absorbing it.

After establishing the artistic trend of painting horses, he did not care about it, diligently pursued, and after more than ten years of hard work, he finally formed a new style of painting horses. The creation of a new technique unprecedented to the history of Chinese horse painting has added a blank space to the expression of coat color with a fine brush, which will have a positive impact on the development of Chinese gongbi painting horses.

In order to create a new painting language, Mr. Huang Jin collected information extensively, paying special attention to the works of horse painting masters of the Tang and Song dynasties, such as Han Gan's Horse Drawing and Li Gonglin's Five Horse Diagram, all of which were carefully studied, and the horse paintings of Zhao Ziang and Ren Renfa in the Yuan Dynasty, as well as the horse painting albums of the Ming Dynasty's anonym fine brushstrokes and the Qing court Ruyiguan painter Shen Zhenlin's horse painting albums.

Mr. Huang Jin's paintings not only embody the expansion of traditional horse painting techniques, but also give new consciousness to the concept of works, and the techniques created have a positive effect on the development, exploration and deepening of gongbi painting horses.
