Why was the all-powerful Jinyi guard of the Ming Dynasty wiped out overnight? Even the emperor did not keep it

author:Wushan Melting

The Ming Dynasty was a relatively magical dynasty, and there were many strange emperors. Around these emperors, you will often see the beautiful and cool Jinyi Wei, which is also a unique product of the Ming Dynasty. At first, it was all beautiful, but such a powerful organization was wiped out overnight.

The Jinyi Guard was set up by Zhu Yuanzhang to control the outlaw ministers, and this group of people had unlimited scenery at the beginning of its establishment. They only listened to the emperor, and the leader was generally the emperor's most trusted military general. They have a lot of power in their hands and can arrest anyone, including the relatives of the emperor and the state. And they can also conduct closed trials, known as lynchings. During Zhu Yuanzhang's period, one of the reasons why corrupt officials were uncomfortable was because there were Jinyi guards, and Zhu Yuanzhang hated corrupt officials very much, and Jinyiwei was a tool used to supervise courtiers.

The JinyiWei was founded in the fifteenth year of Hongwu (1382), and at the beginning its functions were only to guard, capture, and command prisons. After five years, Zhu Yuanzhang realized that the power of the Jinyi Guard was too great, so he slowly abolished it. Jinyiwei was involved in the four major cases of Hongwu in the early Ming Dynasty, and basically Jinyiwei was ordered to arrest them.

But later, after Zhu Di ascended the throne, he restored the Jinyiwei and set up an east factory in order to contain the Jinyiwei. The East Factory was an institution full of eunuchs who were close to the emperor, and one of the advantages they had over the Jinyi guards was that they were close to the emperor, and they became a more terrifying existence than the Jinyiwei.

But it is not that the Jinyi guards are not good, their authority is still very large, only later when the eunuchs have monopoly power, they slowly began to attach themselves to the East Factory.

The Jiajing Emperor period should be the peak of the jinyiwei's power, very simple, because the leader of the jinyiwei at this time was Lu Bing. This person is not small, his mother is the nursing mother of the Jiajing Emperor, Lu Bing also grew up with Jiajing, and once saved the Jiajing Emperor when there was a fire in the palace.

Only later, the power gradually weakened, and it has been suppressed by the East Factory. Their numbers were actually not large, and they could not resist under Li Zicheng's army.

In the seventeenth year of Chongzhen (1644), Chongzhen, the last emperor of the Ming Dynasty, hanged himself at Coal Mountain when Li Zicheng attacked Beijing, but Jinyiwei did not disappear with Chongzhen.

Ma Jixiang survived, and he was the last Jinyiwei commander in Chinese history. Ma Jixiang is not a good person, what he is best at is patting horses, how strong can he be under his jinyi guards? And basically by the end of the Ming Dynasty, the status of the Jinyi guards was still not high, and the status was not high, and it was not good to develop, so the combat effectiveness was generally not high.

On July 18, 1661 (August 12, 1661), the King of Burma and the Emperor of the Southern Ming Dynasty intended to swear an oath by spelling water, but this was a trap. Ma Jixiang took his men to the Burmese garrison, only to be surrounded and killed, and soon after, Yongli was strangled to death by the Qing army led by Wu Sangui, and the Jinyi wei disappeared completely with Nanming.
