In 1909, Hu Hansan returned to China after completing his studies, and successively served as the deputy of the first infantry regiment of the Shanghai Army, the commander of the second brigade of the vanguard, and the commander of the first infantry regiment of the first division of the Sichuan Army.

From 1929 onwards, Hu Hansan began to have a smooth career, and was successively appointed by Chiang Kai-shek as a senior staff officer at the headquarters of the Eighth Army of the National Revolutionary Army and a staff officer of the Military and Political Department of the Nationalist Government in Nanjing. The real Hu Hansan

On April 18, 1927, Chiang Kai-shek established the Nationalist government in Nanjing, and out of factional strife, he would always have a grudge with the Gui warlords Li Zongren and Bai Chongxi. In March 1929, a major war finally broke out, and two months later it ended in the defeat of the Gui clan, known in history as the "Jiang-Gui War".

Li Jishen, a senior Kuomintang general and a figure of real power, was then a member of the National Government and chief of staff of the Military Commission, and because he was a fellow Guangxi compatriot with Li Zongren and Bai Chongxi and had relatively close relations, he was suspected by Chiang Kai-shek and suspected that Li Jishen was obstructing him. On March 15, 1929, Chiang Kai-shek detained Li Jishen on charges of "dividing up trouble and plotting against the party-state," secretly placed him under house arrest in Tangshan, Nanjing, and deprived him of his military and political powers.

In 1954, after Li Jishen's recommendation to Huang Yan, the first governor of Anhui Province at that time, Hu Hansan, who was more than a year old, served as a librarian of the Anhui Provincial Museum of Culture and History, and his later life was basically guaranteed. In October 1966, Hu Hansan died of illness at the age of 82.
