Among the three major battles, the Huaihai Campaign was the one in which our army annihilated the largest number of enemies and had the greatest impact, and after this battle, the overall situation of the world was basically determined, and President Jiang no longer had the arrogant capital.
Of course, there were many reasons for the defeat of the Kuomintang army in the Battle of Huaihai, but the incompetence of Li Yannian and Liu Ruming could be said to be very important reasons.

Before the Outbreak of the Battle of Huaihai, Chiang Kai-shek specially arranged for Li Yannian to lead the 6th Army and Liu Ruming to lead the 8th Army to garrison Bengbu together, waiting to support friendly forces.
After the Battle of Huaihai really broke out, the two men were always watching each other, and finally because of the hesitation of the two, the famous Huang Wei Legion was completely destroyed.
Since then, Li Yannian's position in Chiang Kai-shek's heart has plummeted, and he was even sentenced to 10 years in prison.
In fact, Li Yannian was also a famous general in a hundred battles, graduated from the first phase of the Whampoa Military Academy, promoted to major general at the age of 25, and promoted to lieutenant general at the age of 27, which is very fast among the Huangpu students.
After the outbreak of the All-out War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Li Yannian successively led his troops to participate in the Battle of Songhu, the Battle of Taierzhuang, the Battle of Xuzhou, the Battle of Wuhan, the Battle of Kunlun Pass, and so on.
Then, why did such a famous anti-Japanese general, who had experienced hundreds of battles and made countless meritorious contributions, play "soy sauce" in the Huaihai Campaign?
There are two main reasons, the first point is that the army led by Li Yannian at that time was reorganized from the Kuomintang's appeasement army, most of them were miscellaneous armies, and their combat effectiveness could not be compared with that of the regular troops of the Concubine clan.
The second point is that Li Yannian's careful thinking is at work.
At that time, Huang Wei's army was surrounded in Shuangduiji, and Chiang Kai-shek ordered Li Yannian and Liu Ruming to come to the rescue. At first, Li Yannian and Liu Ruming still marched urgently, but the further they advanced, the slower the speed of the two armies became, fearing that they would surpass the other army.
Liu Ruming even called Liu Zhi, the commander-in-chief of Xuzhou, and asked Liu Zhi to order Li Yannian to speed up, but Li Yannian ignored Liu Zhi's orders and still hurried slowly. In the end, because the two men were slow to move, the Entire Huang Wei Army was destroyed.
If we say that Chiang Kai-shek still had some understanding of Li Yannian in the defeat of the Huaihai Campaign, Li Yannian's defeat in Fujian made Chiang Kai-shek intolerable.
After the liberation of Nanjing, Li Yannian was entrusted by Chiang Kai-shek with a heavy responsibility, leading his army to garrison Fujian, and it was necessary to hold Fujian to provide an opportunity for the Kuomintang to escape from Taiwan.
However, at this time, the Kuomintang soldiers had long since lost the heart to fight, and everyone knew that it was important to save their lives, which eventually led to the loss of Fujian, and Li Yannian had to flee to Taiwan.
The loss of Fujian made Chiang Kai-shek furious and ordered Chen Cheng to thoroughly investigate the reasons for the loss, and finally found out li Yannian's head and sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Originally, Chen Cheng meant to shoot Li Yannian, but Chiang Kai-shek finally had a bit of nostalgia for the past and was sentenced to 10 years.
However, many of Li Yannian's old friends helped him intercede, and Li Yannian was not in good health, and after a year in prison, he was released on bail.
After his release from prison, Li Yannian became nothing, and even could only eat steamed bread dipped in brine, thanks to the help of old friends, he barely spent his old age, and died depressed in 1974 at the age of 70.
