Nikola delivers the first electric truck and officially enters the production and sales phase

This is an important milestone for Nikola, marking its final stage of producing and selling all-electric trucks, while also developing hydrogen fuel cell trucks that have promised to launch in 2023.

Total Transportation Services has signed a letter of intent for 100 trucks (30 BEV battery cars and 70 FCV fuel cell vehicles) with Nikola, but initially the company will receive two BEVs and two FCVs. The 30 electric Tres will be delivered in 2022, while the FCVs will begin deliveries in 2023. However, the deal depends on the outcome of the pilot.

In September, IVECO (part of CNH Industries) and Nikola announced a memorandum of understanding with hamburg port authority A R (HPA) on the sale of up to 25 Nikola Tre electric trucks.

IT House learned that IVECO and Nikola have a joint venture manufacturing plant in Ulm, Germany (at IVECO's truck factory) that will produce BEV and FCV versions of Nikola cars for Europe. These vehicles are based on the IVECO S-Way platform and use an improved cab.

According to the press release, the Nikola Tre, which was originally produced for U.S. customers, was also produced in Germany, and "the first Nikola Tre models produced here will be delivered to select customers in the U.S. in 2022." In addition to the production model of the Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), the next development of this modular heavy-duty platform is also presented to the public in the form of a prototype of Nikola Tre's Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV). This successor model will be in production in Ulm at the end of 2023. ”

Nikola's manufacturing facility in Coolidge, Arizona (under construction) has also started pre-production of the Nikola Tre BEV. The company intends to have a manufacturing capacity of 2,400 trucks per year (assuming two-shifts) by 2022, and a phase II expansion of 20,000 units/year is expected to be completed by early 2023.

According to the Nikola website, the production version of the Nikola Tre will have a range of 350 miles (563 kilometers).
