The little-known legends of Jiang Weiping, the founding first lieutenant colonel

Text/Kingdom Building

There are many articles about Jiang Weiping on the Internet, but they are all the same over the times, without any novelty, and they cannot show readers a vivid and colorful legendary old Eighth Route Army.

Well-known personal information, Xiaobian will not do detailed introduction, a brush.

Jiang Weiping, formerly known as Jiang Shunfa and alias Ji Binli, was born in 1878 in Shilou Village, Fangshan County (now part of Beijing), Hebei Province. When he was young, he was a deputy regimental commander under Duan Qirui of the Beiyang Army. In February 1938, Jiang Weiping, who had been demobilized and returned to the field for many years, joined the Eighth Route Army with his righteous son Jiang Zhigang and became a military medical officer of the 359th Brigade of the 120th Division, saving the lives of countless soldiers. After the founding of New China, in recognition of Jiang Weiping's contributions to the country and the people in the revolutionary cause, he was specially awarded the rank of lieutenant colonel of the Republic. Because Jiang Weiping was 77 years old at the time of the award, older than Both Marshal Zhu De and Chairman Mao, he was famous for a while, and was affectionately known as the First Lieutenant Colonel of the Founding Of The People's Republic of China.

The little-known legends of Jiang Weiping, the founding first lieutenant colonel

01. The deputy head of the regiment is not corrupt and is willing to return to his hometown to cultivate land and practice medicine

Jiang Weiping joined the Beiyang Army at a young age, and for many years he worked hard, and by the time Duan Qirui came to power, he had already served as a deputy regimental commander. Although the deputy commander of the Beiyang Army is not a great official position, he has a thousand troops under his command, as long as he is willing to embezzle, it is not a problem to get a hundred and ten oceans a month (each soldier deducts a dime, which is 100 current oceans). Jiang Weiping came from a poor family and was not contaminated with these bad diseases, and after Duan Qirui fell, he simply left the army and returned to his hometown to practice medicine. Putting himself in his shoes, a deputy regimental commander who was willing to return to his hometown to become a farmer proved that Jiang Wei was open-minded, able to bear hardships and stand hard work, and had ideals and pursuits for life. Such qualities were lacking in the warlords and politicians of the time.

02. He joined the Eighth Route Army with all his belongings at the age of 60

After the Lugou Bridge Incident in 1937, Jiang Weiping, who was bent on resisting the state, joined Song Zheyuan's 29th Route Army and served as the chairman of the Management Horse Department of the 3rd Division of the 29th Route Army. Because the 29th Route Army was from the Beiyang Department, it can be regarded as the old family gate. Jiang Weiping has studied both Traditional Chinese and Western medicine, and has been practicing medicine for many years, and being a veterinarian who manages warhorses in the army can also be regarded as making the best use of his materials. However, it was very regrettable that soon after, the army was disbanded in the infighting of the Kuomintang, and Jiang Weiping, who had no way to serve the country, had to return to his hometown to continue to open a pharmacy to make a living.

The little-known legends of Jiang Weiping, the founding first lieutenant colonel

In February 1938, General Wang Zhen led the 359th Brigade of the 120th Division into Pingxi, passing through Jiang Weiping's hometown of Fangshan. Jiang Weiping had long heard of the Eighth Route Army, but had never seen what it looked like. This time, I witnessed the Eighth Route Army's posture and vitality, and its military discipline was strict, and it did not commit any crimes against the common people, which was a world of difference compared with the Kuomintang warlord troops. So Jiang Weiping, who was 60 years old at the time, made a surprising decision to join the Eighth Route Army with all the belongings of the pharmacy. At that time, jiang Weiping was also living with his adopted son Jiang Zhigang, and the young man also joined the revolutionary team with his father without hesitation. What the Eighth Route Army lacks most is medical personnel and medicines, and Jiang Weiping's move is completely a charcoal in the snow, can it not move General Wang Zhen? After organizational review, Jiang Weiping gloriously joined the Communist Party of China in May 1938 and was appointed as the director of the pharmaceutical factory of the 359th Brigade of the 120th Division of the Eighth Route Army.

The 359th Brigade was one of the main forces of the Eighth Route Army, with frequent combat missions and heavy casualties. In addition to being busy with the treatment and rescue of the wounded, Jiang Weiping also had an important and arduous task, that is, to find and manufacture drugs for various common diseases to serve the troops and the masses in the revolutionary base areas. At that time, the base area of the Eighth Route Army was blockaded by the Japanese puppet army, and even the Kuomintang army was overtly and covertly playing tricks to make a stumbling block, and all kinds of daily necessities were extremely scarce, let alone medical drugs. Jiang Weiping made and produced drugs, one had no raw materials, two did not have experimental equipment, and third, there was no production machinery, and it was difficult for Qiao Women to cook without rice. However, these difficulties did not frighten Jiang Weiping, who based on the knowledge of Chinese and Western medicine he learned and relied on the help of the organization and the masses to study and treat drugs by himself.

The little-known legends of Jiang Weiping, the founding first lieutenant colonel

For example, sodium sulfate, which was very popular with soldiers at that time, was extracted and decomposed by Jiang Weiping using glauber's salt collected by soldiers and the masses from various places. Maybe now many science students will say, is not the glauber's salt refining to decompose sodium sulfate, very simple, I will also. But don't forget, it was 80 years ago during the War of Resistance Against Japan, the producer was Jiang Weiping, a sixty-year-old man who had never been to school and only taught himself Traditional Chinese and Western medicine. There is also a "special medicine" for the treatment of poisonous sores - honey lard cream, which is made by Jiang Weiping mixing honey, lard and natural Chinese herbal medicine according to his many years of medical experience, which has a special effect on the treatment of boils. According to statistics, from 1938 to 1949, Jiang Weiping researched and treated more than ten kinds of drugs for our army, and the scope of treatment included knife and gun wounds, colds and flus, viral infections, etc., making great contributions to the revolutionary cause.

03. Lead the grandchildren and comrades-in-arms to reclaim the famine in Nanniwan and help the troops survive the difficult years

From 1942 to 1943, due to natural disasters and man-made blockades, the lives of the troops and the masses in the revolutionary base areas of northern Shaanxi were extremely difficult. Under such a grim situation, the Party Central Committee called on the troops to carry out production and self-help. In response to the call of the Party Central Committee, General Wang Zhen dispatched troops without combat tasks to reclaim land in the barren Nanniwan area of southern Shaanxi. After the order was issued, the soldiers had a great opinion, believing that they were the main combat unit, and instead of fighting the Japanese puppet army, they ran to open up the wasteland and cultivate land, which was a bit of a big deal. And most of these fighters are young people in their 20s, although they can bear hardships and stand hard work, they have no experience in reclaiming land and farming, and they do not know how to produce and save themselves. In this way, Jiang Weiping, who had been a farmer at home for many years and had rich experience in agricultural production, became a teacher of the soldiers, responsible for educating and guiding the comrades-in-arms of these grandchildren to reclaim the land.

The little-known legends of Jiang Weiping, the founding first lieutenant colonel

In the spring of 1943, the 359th Brigade appointed Jiang Weiping as the farm director of the 719th Regiment of Jiulongquan in Nanniwan, and led more than 100 young soldiers to carry out reclamation and production activities. The young men are full of energy, that is, they lack experience, where they can reclaim land, where they can level the fields, where there are water sources for irrigation, and where the soil is fertile, They must be personally investigated and guided by Jiang Weiping. When Jiang Weiping was the director of the pharmaceutical factory before, he had high skills and a big temper, and several brigade leaders were scolded by him. Now that he is the farm manager, he has curbed his explosive temper and treated every soldier like his grandfather cared for his grandson. Under the meticulous management of Jiang Weiping, the 719 Farm reclaimed more than 400 mu in 1943, not only achieved self-sufficiency in production that year, but also handed over 28,800 kilograms of public grain to the troops, helping the revolutionary base areas survive the difficult years. Jiang Weiping was also named the labor hero of the 359th Brigade in 1943 and the labor hero and model worker of the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region.

In 1944, Jiang Weiping successively opened a wood processing factory and a rice milling workshop at the 719 farm. It also organized pharmaceutical, weaving and charcoal burning industries, realized the diversified development of production, and played a leading and exemplary role in the production self-help activities in Nanniwan and even in the operation and development of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps later. Farm 719 also became the first model farm of the 359 Brigade. It is no exaggeration to say that Jiang Weiping was the greatest contributor to the success achieved by the 359th Brigade in Nanniwan.

04. He contributed his life to the revolution and died of illness at work

After 1949, Jiang Weiping was assigned to work in the hospital directly under the Chahar Military Region, the Zhangjiakou Hospital of the North China Military Region, the 251st Hospital of Zhangjiakou of the Beijing Military Region, and the China International Bethune Peace Hospital.

In 1955, at the age of 77, Jiang Weiping was awarded the rank of lieutenant colonel, and was also awarded the Order of Independence and Freedom of the Third Class and the Liberation Medal of the Third Class. Because Jiang Weiping was old and qualified, everyone respected him very much and affectionately called him the First Lieutenant Colonel of the Republic. Jiang Weiping was born as a military doctor with a goatee beard with a large number of white flowers, and according to the army's management system, he should have been shaved off and cleaned up. However, the leaders of the Central Military Commission considered Jiang Weiping's special status and specially allowed him to grow a beard.

On July 12, 1964, Jiang Weiping died at the age of 86 at the Zhangjiakou 251 Hospital where he had worked.

(Note: There are articles that say jiang Weiping was awarded the rank of major in 1955 and promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel in 1960.) After many searches, no relevant official information was found. )
