Huang Yanpei changed the monument

In February 1952, Huang Yanpei returned to his hometown of Chuansha and wanted to return to his hometown to pay tribute to his dead son Huang Jingwu.

As soon as he got off the train, Huang Yanpei was warmly welcomed, and everyone admired this fellow and was proud of him.

Knowing that Huang Yanpei wanted to go to worship his son Huang Jingwu, who was buried in the Martyrs' Cemetery, everyone said: "Vice Premier Huang, we will accompany you to worship the martyr Huang Jingwu!" ”

Huang Yanpei smiled and said to everyone, "Okay, then let's go together." ”

So, a group of people headed towards the martyrs' cemetery in Chuansha Town.

Coming to the martyrs' cemetery, Huang Yanpei went straight to Huang Jingwu's tombstone under the leadership of the staff.

Along the way, everyone was deeply saddened by Huang Jingwu's sacrifice and lamented Huang Jingwu's loyalty and filial piety.

Huang Yanpei listened to them talking about their son, remembering that Huang Jingwu had been captured in prison by Kuomintang agents to cover him, and finally buried alive.

Because he was monitored by the Kuomintang and was sullen every day, his son Huang Jingwu came up with a method when he saw it.

He still remembers that day, Huang Jingwu came to him and said to him, "Dad, if you don't let me pretend to be you to deceive the surveillance people, will you find a chance to escape?" ”

Huang Yanpei was a little stunned after listening to it at that time, he really wanted to escape, after all, he still had important things to do, but he was bitter that the Kuomintang would not let him go, so he had to stay in the Rongkang Villa.

He looked at his son's face, and it was true that only Huang Jingwu looked like him, but if the Kuomintang agents knew that Huang Jingwu was pretending to be him, he was afraid that he would be embarrassed and angry with Huang Jingwu.

Seeing that his father was so entangled, Huang Jingwu smiled and said, "Dad, you just promise it, I am a matter of loyalty and filial piety, and only in this way can you and your mother get rid of it!" ”

So Huang Yanpei agreed, and after Huang Jing armed him to lure away the agent, he put on makeup and escaped from the Rongkang Villa with his wife.

After that, the embarrassed Kuomintang agents had no choice but to evacuate the people of Rongkang Villa.

Later, due to the leak of a secret meeting with the CCP, Huang Jingwu was unfortunately arrested, and then the news of his death came.

When he thought of the liberation of Shanghai a few days after Huang Jingwu's sacrifice, Huang Yanpei couldn't help but feel a little sad for a while.

When he came to Huang Jingwu's tomb and saw the tombstone standing there, Huang Yanpei's face changed in an instant, and his sad mood dissipated completely.

Huang Yanpei took a deep breath, pointed solemnly at Huang Jingwu's tombstone and said, "Can any of you explain to me what happened to this tombstone?" ”

The staff of the Martyrs' Cemetery on the side were a little confused, carefully looked at Huang Jingwu's tombstone, and thought that the stele body was not damaged, and the font on it was not wrong!

He said to Huang Yanpei, "Vice Premier Huang, is there anything wrong with this tombstone?" ”

The other accompanying people also looked at Huang Yanpei doubtfully.

Huang Yanpei snorted and said, "The problem with this tombstone is too big!" ”

He looked at several martyrs' tombstones not far away, and said excitedly: "You look at the other martyrs' tombstones, and then look at Huang Jingwu's tombstones, and find out if there is a problem." ”

But after watching for half a day, some people still didn't quite understand what the problem Huang Yanpei said was.

Huang Yanpei saw that everyone did not speak, and said somewhat unhappily: "Why is it that in the same martyrs' cemetery, the size of the tombstones is different, the other martyrs' tombstones are very small, while Huang Jingwu's tombstones are much larger!" ”

When he said this, everyone was in a daze, but they all felt that this was not the right thing to do, after all, Huang Jingwu had made great contributions to the revolution, why Huang Yanpei did not feel happy, but looked angry.

The staff of the Martyrs' Cemetery also thought so, explaining to Huang Yanpei: "The reason why the tombstone of the martyr Huang Jingwu is larger than that of others is because the martyr Huang Jingwu has made great contributions to the revolution. ”

Who knew that after Huang Yanpei heard this, he was furious and said, "If you listen to what you say, you are also revolutionary martyrs, and you actually have to divide into high and low levels!" ”

The staff of the martyrs' cemetery were yelled at by Huang Yanpei, and their faces turned ugly.

Huang Yanpei continued: "Everyone has dedicated their lives to this country, they are all meritorious, and they should not be treated differently like this. ”

He pointed to Huang Jingwu's tombstone and said, "Although this Huang Jingwu is my son, we must not specialize in this, and I hope that you can replace the tombstone as soon as possible to the same size as the tombstones of other martyrs." ”

The staff of the Martyrs' Cemetery were a little embarrassed to hear Huang Yanpei's request, and they did not immediately agree.

Huang Yanpei looked displeased and said, "What, can't this tombstone be replaced?" ”

The staff member replied, "This tombstone can be changed, but the inscription on it cannot be changed." ”

Huang Yanpei looked at the inscription on Huang Jingwu's tombstone and somewhat understood.

It turned out that the inscription on this tombstone was personally inscribed by Hu Weiwen, vice chairman of the Central Committee of the China Democratic National Construction Association, and Sheng Pihua, chairman of the Shanghai Civil Construction Association.

Hu Yuwen

The staff of the Martyrs' Cemetery said: "After all, this inscription was inscribed by Mr. Hu Weiwen and Mr. Sheng Pihua, and if it is changed, I am afraid that it will make him unhappy." ”

Huang Yanpei thought about it and said, "You don't have to deal with this, you just need to change this tombstone to the same size as soon as possible, the two gentlemen have me to say, I think he will not blame you after he knows the reason." ”

Then, he said solemnly to the people who accompanied him to worship: "Let everyone see the smile, although this Huang Jingwu martyr is my son, he has indeed made contributions to the country, but I know it in my heart." ”

After a pause, Huang Yanpei continued: "Huang Jingwu's contribution is actually not very large compared with the contributions of other martyrs, and the tombstone erected for him does not meet any regulations, but also falls on people's tongues and attracts gossip from others." ”

Subsequently, he calmed down and said: "The so-called martyrs are those who have contributed to the country, and if even the size of the tombstone must have a class ranking, it is very undesirable, and it will also make this martyrs' cemetery taste bad." ”

After hearing Huang Yanpei's words, everyone nodded their heads, saying that they had been taught, and praised Huang Yanpei's spiritual character from the bottom of their hearts.

After paying homage to Huang Jingwu, Huang Yanpei repeatedly instructed the staff of the Martyrs' Cemetery to change the tombstone as soon as possible before leaving, and those staff members also nodded their heads and said that they would do as Huang Yanpei asked.

Soon, the management of the martyrs' cemetery immediately gathered manpower to replace the monument of Huang Jingwu's cemetery.

After changing it, they reported to Huang Yanpei: "Vice Premier Huang, we have replaced the tombstone of martyr Huang Jingwu in accordance with your request, please come and check it out." ”

Huang Yanpei, who received the report, was very happy and came to the martyrs' cemetery in Chuansha Town again.

This time when he came to Huang Jingwu's tomb, the tombstone had been changed to the same size as the other martyrs' tombstones, and he smiled and said, "Yes, it should be like this." ”

After repeatedly confirming that there was no mistake, Huang Yanpei left the martyrs' cemetery.

The life of Huang Jingwu

In this monument replacement incident, Huang Jingwu is an indispensable role, so who is he?

Huang Jingwu, the son of Huang Yanpei, was born in 1903 and is a patriotic democrat like his father.

After the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression in 1945, Huang Jingwu prepared for the establishment of the Democratic League in Shanghai and began to lead some people in the struggle against the civil war and for democracy.

He established the China Democratic Construction Association and united patriots in the business community to throw themselves into the democratic revolutionary movement.

In the autumn of 1947, the Kuomintang government announced the abolition of the NLD in an attempt to forcefully suppress the democratic parties.

Therefore, under the increasingly serious white terror of the Kuomintang, Huang Jingwu was appointed as the executive officer of the China Democratic Construction Lingan Association and actively participated in the activities of leading the Underground China Democratic Construction Association.

He covered up the CCP's underground staff in Shanghai and helped protect and evacuate democrats.

In 1949, when the Kuomintang regime began to collapse, Chiang Kai-shek plotted to smuggle a large amount of money from the central bank's inventory to Taiwan.

In order to stop the Kuomintang's plans, Huang Jingwu responded to the CCP's call to expose the Kuomintang government's conspiracy to the press and secretly launched a boycott by some employees at the central bank.

Huang Jingwu united people from the financial community to fight, so that the Kuomintang government's smuggling plan was not fully realized.

Later, Huang Jingwu contacted the CCP's Shanghai Bureau Counter-Insurgency Working Committee in Shanghai to plot a rebellion in the Kuomintang army, but unfortunately it was leaked when their secret meeting was about to be decided.

Later, because the matter of pretending to be his father Huang Yanpei was accidentally exposed, Huang Jingwu was arrested by Kuomintang agents, and in prison he was severely tortured and his legs were broken.

On May 18, he was buried alive in prison by Kuomintang agents.

After the liberation of Shanghai, the remains of Huang Jingwu and thirteen other revolutionary compatriots were found in the prison of the Secret Bureau of the Kuomintang Ministry of National Defense.

The Shanghai Municipal People's Government posthumously recognized Huang Jingwu as a revolutionary martyr and buried him in the martyrs' cemetery in his hometown of Chuansha.

Shortly after his son's death, Huang Yanpei wrote a commemorative article for him, which read:

"Fight! If you die, if you foresee that eight days after your death, six million citizens of Shanghai will be liberated, and the forty-seven million people of all of China will be liberated one after another. Even if you die a miserable death, you can rest assured. ”
