To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, the Shanghai Theater Academy and the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Democratic Construction Association jointly created a large-scale original drama "Guoshi", which was staged at the Shanghai Opera Experimental Theater on July 1 and 2. The whole drama focuses on the life course of Huang Yanpei, a patriotic democrat and educator in modern and modern China. It intercepts several fragments of Huang Yanpei's life from 1903 to 1949, and uses "Huang Yanpei's Three Farewells to Shanghai" to connect the stories, tell the story of his pursuit of the dream of democratic construction, and reveal the great feelings and noble personality of this national soldier.
The director of the play, Dong Jian, is the vice president of the Shanghai Drama Film Academy and the chairman of the drama branch of the Democratic Construction Conference, and he began the pre-creation of the play three years ago to deeply study Huang Yanpei's character deeds. Regarding the choice of Huang Yanpei as the subject of his creation, Dong Jian said: "Mr. Huang Yanpei is a famous democrat, a staunch patriot, a social activist and a pioneer of China's vocational education, and the main founder and leader of the China Democratic Construction Association, and has made immortal contributions to supporting the founding of the Communist Party of China in New China. This drama hopes to show from the perspective of Huang Yanpei how the Chinese Communist Party upholds the truth, fights heroically, and unites people's hearts. ”
As for the word "Guoshi" in the title of the play, Zhou Hanmin, general adviser of the play, vice chairman of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and vice chairman of the Central Committee of the China Democratic National Construction Association, interpreted it this way: "The word 'Guoshi' has multiple interpretations, one of which is that Huang Yanpei runs education, knowing that there are many obstacles, but insists on the attitude of moving forward courageously, which is 'although there are tens of millions of people, I am going to the end'; the second Huang Yanpei pursues the cause of democracy, assists the CPC in building a democratic country, and has the spirit of seeing death as a homecoming." Zhou Hanmin also wrote lyrics for the theme song of the play.
"Guoshi" intercepts the "three distinctions" in Huang Yanpei's life, one is that Huang Yanpei was arrested and imprisoned by the Qing government on the charge of revolutionary party in 1903, and was forced to go into exile in Japan after being rescued; the second is that in 1927, Chiang Kai-shek deliberately assassinated Huang Yanpei for the crime of "studying valves", and Huang Yanpei took refuge in Dalian; third, in 1949, Huang Yanpei was invited by Mao Zedong to go to Beijing to discuss the great cause of building the country. From the year of the weak crown to the age of the ancient rarity, the three different Shanghais, the three conditions, Huang Yanpei's patriotic aspirations have never wavered.
"Guoshi" brings together the creative team in the play, and the creative process also brings the whole crew back to that turbulent time. Under the leadership of director Dong Jian, the students of the 18th, 19th and 20th grades of the broadcasting and hosting art majors, as well as the graduate students of the Film School and the Creative College, studied historical materials together. The script was completed by Li Shitao, associate professor of the Department of Drama and Literature, and Lu Fang, an alumnus.
Guo Jinxin, whose stage/multimedia design is the general multimedia designer of the large-scale Huangpu River Light and Shadow Show in Shanghai celebrating the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China in 2021, he uses simple and changeable mobile sets to create the historical sedimentary texture of "Guoshi" with simple and changeable mobile sets and combined with the images of virtual and real. From the end of the Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China to the eve of the founding of New China, Fan Congbo of service design has an artistic aesthetic on the basis of paying attention to historical facts. Yu Zhong, Guo Yifeng, Wang Shengyue, Xue Guanglei, Wang Renguo, etc. of the three generations of teachers in the Department of Acting served as actors in the play.
