Although Dorgon lived only 38 years, his life was quite legendary. One of the most topical is the legend that in 1648, he married Dayu'er (the future Empress Xiaozhuang). From then on, the Shunzhi Emperor called him the Emperor's Father, and he himself controlled the government for decades as the regent. There is a passage in the Korean historical record about this matter that is very interesting.
It was said that it was February 1649, and the Shunzhi Emperor sent envoys to Korea to present the credentials, and the king of Korea saw that the wording about Dolgun was different, so he asked the envoy what was going on? The envoy hinted to him that there were already two emperors in the Qing Dynasty! As a result, the Koreans concluded that Dorgon had married the empress! Then, there was a minister in North Korea named Jeong Tae-ho who went out of his way to ask someone, and it turned out that Dorgon did often go to the empress's palace.
But his friend Fan Wencheng told him that it was all fake! Moreover, although Dorgon often entered the palace, he basically left after eating! In other words, between Dorgon and Empress Xiaozhuang, it may be just a simple platonic love! In fact, from the records of the "Qing History Manuscript", it is not difficult to find that the turning point in Dorgon's life appeared around 1638.
According to historical records, in this year, the daughter of the Joseon Patriarch Lee Se-seok gave birth to a daughter for him, named Aisin Kyora Donggo. In other words, at this time, Dorgon, there was no problem with the body! But strangely enough, for more than a decade after that, Dorgon, who was in his prime, did not come out of his knees. The reason for this may start from the Battle of Jinzhou in 1640.
According to historical records, in the autumn of that year, the Emperor Taiji soldiers surrounded Jinzhou, and at a critical moment, Hong Chengyu, the governor of Jiliao, led an army to reinforce, and he raided the north hill of Songshan and set up a red-clad cannon on the mountain. Although Dorgon fought bravely, he saw that he was powerless to return to the sky and ordered a retreat. Just then, a shell landed at Dorgon's feet. The latter was suddenly bleeding profusely. Yes, he was injured.
Rumor has it that Dorgon was injured and that the location was special, which may have been the reason why he only had 1 daughter. But there is no ample evidence to prove this. However, it is mentioned in the "Manchu Old Files" that since the Battle of Jinzhou, Dorgon's health is obviously worse than before. In 1650, while hunting in the suburbs, Dorgon fell without birth, and soon died.
Whether this strange fall incident can also be proved. Is he in poor health? As for why it is bad, whether it is sick or a physiological problem, then no one knows. That's why I say it. Dorgon only had one daughter, and the reason is very obscure!
