Many spectators were puzzled by this: The Northeast Field Army is strong, the generals are flexible in their tactics, and the battle with pools is indeed very touching and shocking, but why does our army choose to take a detour in the face of such a difficult fortification? Did you have to knock down this pool because the commander was angry? After all, having paid such a large number of casualties, it seems that it is not worth it.
The audience who raised this question mainly believed that the area of the water distribution pond fortification was not large, and that it was originally just an urban water supply facility built by the Japanese, and felt that there was no need to pay for the lives of soldiers simply for such a reinforced and concrete fortress. This formulation seems to make sense, but it does not combine it with the actual situation in Jinzhou.
Before the Liaoshen Campaign, the main force of the Northeast Field Army was more than 700,000 people, most of which were deployed north of the Songhua River. After the Central Military Commission issued operational requirements, the Dongye army marched south along the Beining Line, and the first combat target was Jinzhou, in order to form a trend of closing the door and fighting dogs. If Dongye were to attack Jinzhou City from the north, he would not be able to avoid these two strongholds in any way. Because of the characteristics of the campaign, it was necessary to storm the pool. From another point of view, Fan Hanjie, a famous general of the Nationalist Army, was also very clear about this point when he was defending Jinzhou, and he targetedly increased the consolidation of these strongholds and further aggravated the casualties of the officers and men of our army.
Some friends will ask, since the combat in the north of Jinzhou City is so difficult, why not retreat to the second place to carry out tactical detours and attack Jinzhou from the south? This again touched on another side of the problem: at the beginning of the Liaoshen Campaign, Lao Jiang transferred troops from North China and Shandong to form the EastWard Advance Corps to reinforce the Fan Hanjie clique in Jinzhou. If the Tashan Blockade Battle could not be won, or could not win enough time for the main force of Dongye to attack the city, then the main force of our army that was attacking the city on the south side would face the two bread clips of the defending enemy and the eastward advancing corps in Jinzhou City, and the situation was critical. Therefore, it is even more unrealistic for our army to take a detour to attack from the south of the city.
Although the area of the distribution pool is small, it is connected to a dark trench with Jinzhou City. Jiang's army suffered heavy casualties in the pool, and it could also replenish soldiers and supplies through the secret passage, so Dongye finished a reinforcement battalion before barely taking the pool. This was also because the divisional headquarters made accurate judgments and cut off the enemy's communication trenches in time to reverse the situation, otherwise the enemy troops who reinforced the pool would continue to flow. The "big bump" that is not reflected in TV series and movies is actually not easier to play than the pool. When the pool was taken down, the big bump had not yet been beaten. When the big knot position was taken, Higashino Sansan destroyed three battalions, but there was no tragic scene of nearly the death of the whole battalion like the pool. It was precisely because of the bloody price that our army swept away the obstacles north of Jinzhou City and successfully conquered Jinzhou, laying the foundation for the final victory of the Liaoshen Campaign.
