Doctor: Fillings and simple tooth extractions are generally no problem If anti-inflammatory treatment is required after surgery, it is recommended to take the vaccine one week later

Nowadays, the new crown vaccination is gradually popularizing, in order to resist the damage of the new crown virus, everyone has responded to the call of the state to actively vaccinate, but at the same time, some oral treatment patients have questions: can you see your teeth before and after vaccination? Can I get vaccinated during some oral treatment follow-up visits? On December 11, Xu Yan, director and chief physician of the comprehensive outpatient department of Shenyang Stomatological Hospital, gave a detailed answer to this question.

Clinically, when patients undergo some oral treatment, the doctor will instruct the patient to take oral anti-inflammatory drugs and cooperate with the oral treatment that has been carried out to achieve a complete anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effect. So, how long after the new crown vaccine can I take anti-inflammatory drugs? Xu Yan introduced that the new crown vaccine vaccinated by the public at this stage belongs to the whole virus inactivated vaccine and the recombinant protein subunit vaccine, so taking some antiviral anti-inflammatory drugs, antibiotics or hormone drugs may affect the effectiveness of the new crown vaccine. In general, non-viral anti-inflammatory drugs do not conflict with the COVID-19 vaccine, but for safety reasons, it is recommended to take anti-inflammatory drugs at least 72 hours apart or a week later. Therefore, combined with the situation of oral clinical operation, if it involves the treatment of taking anti-inflammatory drugs after surgery, it is recommended that it is best to carry out one week after the new crown vaccine.

At the same time, Xu Yan listed several common treatment items in stomatology and explained them one by one for the people.

Caries: If caries is found in the mouth before and after vaccination against covid-19, it is possible to perform operations such as filling teeth normally and will not affect the effectiveness of the vaccine.

Root canal treatment: Patients who need to do root canal treatment before and after ingestion of pulpitis or apical periodontitis can generally be treated with root canal under local anesthesia and will not conflict with the vaccine, but oral anti-inflammatory drugs are not recommended after surgery, and at least 72 hours later, it is necessary to take anti-inflammatory drugs with treatment. If root canal treatment has been completed for the first time, the vaccine can be vaccinated for the period before the follow-up visit and will not affect the effectiveness of the vaccine.

Periodontal cleansing: Periodontal cleansing can be performed before and after vaccination without conflict. However, oral anti-inflammatory drugs are not recommended after surgery, and it is not recommended to take anti-inflammatory drugs with treatment at least 72 hours later.

Tooth extraction: If it is a relatively simple tooth extraction operation, you do not need oral anti-inflammatory drugs after surgery to perform tooth extraction. However, if it is a complex tooth extraction such as wisdom teeth and ambush teeth or a relatively large amount of tooth extraction, oral drugs are required after surgery for anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving, which may affect the effectiveness of the vaccine. Therefore, it is recommended to follow the dental extraction and anti-inflammatory treatment one week apart from vaccination.
