It is understood that Zhang Haijun was born in 1996 in Xicun, Keke Town, Wulan County, Qinghai Province. In 2015, he was admitted to Ningxia University of Technology, majoring in engineering management.
According to the school official, in the eyes of his parents, he is a sensible, obedient, diligent and studious child. During his time at school, he participated in many activities to comfort the elderly, care for disabled children, and "4:30 classroom" lectures for left-behind children, and was the first freshman to join the Youth Volunteer Association.
In September 2016, Zhang Haijun, a sophomore, enlisted in the army with the youthful ideal of dedicating himself to national defense and serving the motherland, becoming a glorious soldier of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.
In September 2018, due to his outstanding performance during his compulsory service, Zhang Haijun was promoted from the rank of superior soldier to the rank of corporal and was appointed deputy squad leader, becoming the first soldier among the recruits to grow into a backbone in the same year.
In May 2020, he honorably joined the Communist Party of China. In the 5 years of his life in the army, he has participated in three special exercises and preparation tasks and stability maintenance tasks, and has won 2 commendations and 1 "excellent non-commissioned officer".
