Recently, the Central Propaganda Department and the Ministry of Education jointly released the advanced deeds of the "most beautiful college students" in 2021. Liu Chen, Liu Yaodong, Yang Qian, Song Zhe, Zhang Jian, Abra jiang, Zhou Jie, Zhou Jinyu, Huang Junting, Liang Ronghao, 10 college students were named the "most beautiful college students" in 2021.
On the evening of December 7, "News Network" released the deeds of "2021 Most Beautiful College Counselors and Most Beautiful College Students", including Zhou Jie, a 2016 doctoral student from the School of Computer Science and Technology of East China Normal University. He is also the only Shanghai student to receive this title.

Zhou Jie, who mainly studies natural language processing, admits that the choice of artificial intelligence stems from his childhood dream. "When I was in elementary school, I forgot the time as soon as I stayed in the computer classroom of the school, and I felt that I and the computer could interconnect people and machines, which was magical. It was from that time that the strong interest in computers planted the seeds of science in my heart. In high school, I experienced the rapid development of science and technology in China, and the research of wearable devices for the Internet of Things appeared. At present, the development of China's high-speed rail and aerospace science and technology has made rapid progress, and some achievements have been at the international leading level. I firmly believe that I can become a scientist in the future, devote myself to the great cause of strengthening the country through my own efforts, and contribute to the development of the motherland. ”
In 2016, he was admitted to East China Normal University with excellent results as a doctoral student under the tutelage of Professor He Liang.

After entering school, the difficulties of robot emotion analysis technology and the emotional needs of vulnerable social groups such as empty nest elderly and left-behind children have become frequent topics discussed by the two masters and apprentices. They hope that robots will also have "temperature" to solve the urgent need to help the elderly and children in the economic transition period.
During his doctoral studies, Zhou Jie deeply engaged in the research of emotion analysis and natural language processing, and was committed to using these technologies to solve social problems and improve the quality of life of people, especially the elderly and left-behind children. Through continuous efforts, with excellent academic performance and practical achievements, he has won the honorary titles of National Scholarship, President's Scholarship, 2020 Shanghai University Student of the Year and 2021 Most Beautiful College Student.

Determined to be a leader in artificial intelligence to empower emotions
Deep learning, emotion analysis, and natural language processing are very important applied research areas for human-computer interaction. Whether the machine can have emotional intelligence is exactly what Zhou Jie is interested in.

"At the moment, AI is not very powerful for certain tasks. Although they have an advantage in difficult projects such as Go, they all have clear goals, and artificial intelligence is stronger than humans but has more computing power. Machines are hard to come by, they all grow based on large amounts of training data. The current advantage of deep learning is that machines can even surpass humans on some problems, such as face recognition, image classification, and so on. But AI can also make further breakthroughs in more complex tasks, such as cognition, reasoning and other fields, so that machines can not only have IQ, but also have emotional intelligence. I hope that in the near future, through scientific research, the "Great White" of "Super Marines" can enter thousands of households and provide more support and help for the vulnerable groups in society. Zhou Jie said.
Under the guidance of his supervisors, Professor He Liang and Associate Professor Wu Yuanbin, Zhou Jie achieved a breakthrough in this field. He has published a total of 26 papers in internationally renowned academic conferences and journals such as AAAI, KBS, INS, COLNG, etc., of which 13 papers have been published as the first author/corresponding (including 4 PAPERS in SCI Zone 1/CCF A and 4 papers in SCI Zone 2/CCF B papers).
During his PhD, he was a visiting scholar at York University in Canada for one year and has long served as a reviewer for several top international journals and conferences such as Information Sciences, Knowledge-based Systems, Neurocomputing, JMLC, AAAI, etc. Invited to participate in the international top conferences AAAI 2018, DASFFA 2020, COLING 2020 and give on-site presentations.
Over the years, Zhou Jie has passed the level in professional competitions, participated in well-known big data mining competitions at home and abroad for 7 times, won the first place 4 times, won the second place 3 times, and the open source solution received more than 300 people's attention. He represented East China Normal University to win the top three places in the International Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining Competition (KDD CUP) for the first time in the top international competition, and presented a presentation at the KDD Conference.
"The journey of scientific truth is long, and scientific and technological innovation is endlessly pursued." Zhou Jie said that he and his team will continue to bravely climb the peak of world science and technology, break through the "card neck" problem, and strive to contribute more achievements in original innovation and independent innovation to help the development of national artificial intelligence.
