Dong Cunrui was born in 1929 to a poor peasant family, and when he was a child, his family was poor, and his family relied on his father to farm for the landlords. But even so, Dong Cunrui's father knows the importance of learning, so even if the family is extremely poor, he will cobble together dong Cunrui to study.
However, due to the difficult conditions, Dong Cunrui only read for one year and dropped out of school at home.

However, in the battle of May 25, 1948, Dong Cunrui's troops encountered a "hard bone" and encountered a bunker built by the enemy on the route of the troops' march. The bunker was built very discreetly, and there were no support points around the bunker for comrades who went on blasting missions to set up blasting points.
In addition, the enemy also placed a large number of machine guns in this bunker, which caused a huge obstacle to our army and seriously suppressed the progress of our army's charge, and the place where the bunker was located was the only way for our army, and if this bunker was not blown up, it would have a major impact on the war situation.
Due to the poor equipment of Dong Cunrui's unit, if he wanted to blow up this bunker, only the soldiers of the blasting group could slowly sneak under the bunker to place explosive packs, thus blowing up the bunker. However, Dong Cunrui's company commander arranged for several groups of fighters from the demolition team to carry out this task, but the fighters did not succeed, either sacrificing themselves on the way forward or being brutally killed by the enemy after failing to blow up the bunker.
Dong Cunrui saw a batch of comrades who had sacrificed one after another, and his heart was in a hurry, and he hurriedly applied to the company commander to carry out the blasting mission, but the company commander considered that he had just carried out many blasting missions and destroyed several enemy pillboxes, worried about his body, and hesitated.
Dong Cunrui saw the hesitation on the company commander's face and said that as a party member, he was obligated to perform this task, and the company commander was impressed by his determination and allowed him to carry out this task.
Therefore, Dong Cunrui led two fighters to creep towards the enemy's bunker, while Xi Shunyi led a commando group to suppress the enemy's firepower and provide cover for Dong Cunrui.
Although Dong Cunrui was cautious and had the cover of the assault group, in the process of creeping forward, two of Dong Cunrui's comrades were still wounded by enemy bullets, and even Dong Cunrui was wounded while creeping forward.
Just as Dong Cunrui was crawling to the bottom of the enemy's bunker, he found that there was no place to support the explosive package everywhere in the bunker, but if the explosive package was not placed in the designated place, then the bunker could not be blown up.
