Hefei, 3 May (Xinhua) -- Title: Challenging Fate with Your Left Hand -- A Road Out of Difficulties for Young People in an Old District

Xinhua News Agency reporters Chen Nuo and Chen Shangying

In Zhao Yuan Village, Taoling Township, Jinzhai County, Anhui Province, an old revolutionary area, Wu Yufei, a 29-year-old young man, is a well-known "left-hander": in the past 6 years, he has been admitted to a master's degree with his left hand, run a pig farm with his left hand, and "led" his family out of poverty with his left hand.

When the reporter met him, it was already noon, he was making lunch in the kitchen, pork fried mountain shoots, wood ear roast meat, braised fish, roasted tofu... After a while, four "hard dishes" were served.

"Today the workers came to expand the pigsty, and they had to eat well at noon!" Wu Yufei was busy while talking. The left hand is extremely sharp, and the right hand is always hidden in the sleeve.

It wasn't until he sat down and spread his hands on the table that the reporter saw that his right hand had no fingers and "shrunk" into a clump.

Six years ago, Wu Yufei, a senior in college, was accidentally electrocuted and suffered extensive burns on his body, including his right hand. The high cost of treatment and the long recovery period have made the already poor family "worse", and in 2015, their family was rated as a poor household.

Wu Yufei was not depressed, and he clenched his incapacitated right hand into a fist that "declared war" on fate. After much thought, he decided to keep pigs at home with his parents.

"If you can't do it, use your brain more." Wu Yufei was smart from an early age, loved to raise small animals, went all the way to college, and also read his favorite major - veterinary medicine. "I have sufficient theoretical knowledge, my parents have strong hands-on ability, and our team is professional."

With the help of poverty alleviation cadres, Wu Yufei's family built a pigsty, bought more than 10 sows, and later added piglets. The first thing Wu Yufei does when he gets up every day is to pick up the bottle and go to the pigsty to feed the piglets. His injured right arm was afraid of the cold, and sometimes he froze and hurt after half of feeding.

When the pig farm opened, Wu Yufei began to think about the examination and research again. "In fact, I had this plan before I was injured." Wu Yufei said that by building a pig farm, he felt more deeply that no matter what line of work he was in, it was always useful to learn more knowledge.

He began to re-learn to write with his left hand, drawing one by one, and at first he was sweating profusely after five or six words in a crooked minute, and he took the master's admissions exam for the first time, and the test paper was not even half written. In order to "make up for the bad" fallen course, he found a large architectural drawing of A1 size to copy notes, and wrote dozens of notes for three years, "Slowly, the left hand writing is more neat than the right hand, and the knowledge points are also familiar." ”

In 2018, the effort finally paid off, and Wu Yufei was admitted to the master's degree in animal husbandry of Anhui University of Science and Technology. Also in this year, the pig farm gradually got on the right track, selling more than 50 fattening pigs, making a profit of nearly 100,000 yuan, and their family achieved stable poverty alleviation.

Wu Yufei believes that one hand can do a lot of things. Master's thesis, he chose "unconventional feed resources" as the research direction, stunned that he did nearly a year of experiments in the countryside of northern Anhui, and now he is busy with the work of the pig farm every day, and he also has to "pick the lights and fight at night" and carefully prepare for the defense.

His pig farm is driving more and more villagers to get rich. Wu Zejun, a 60-year-old poor family, now works here, with an annual income of more than 10,000 yuan. The organic fertilizer in the pig farm can be used free of charge by the surrounding villagers to grow cash crops such as tea and watermelon.

On Wu Yufei's bookshelf, books such as macroeconomics were turned over by him. "Last year, there were more than 300 pigs in the pen, and we must move towards the goal of 1,000 in the future." He told reporters that he also intends to introduce different varieties and develop differentiated breeding.

"Fate has left me a hand that I use to challenge fate." When parting, the reporter held Wu Yufei's left hand, which has experienced vicissitudes but is full of strength.
