On October 20, 1952, in the Battle of 597.9 Heights in the Battle of Shangganling, the wounded demolitionist Long Shichang stuffed into the US bunker after igniting the blasting canister, but was quickly pushed out by the US troops in the bunker, Long Shichang stuffed the blasting canister into the bunker, tried his last strength to hold it with his chest, and died with the US bunker, and won the title of second-class combat hero.

1. Join the military
Long Shichang, formerly known as Long Xiuchang, of the Miao ethnic group, was born in 1928 to a poor peasant family in Pingcha Township, Songtao County, Guizhou Province.
In February 1948, Long Shichang was captured by the Kuomintang 89th Army and assigned to the Zhenyuan Division and incorporated into the artillery company directly under the 984th Regiment of the 328th Division of the Kuomintang 89th Army.
This 89th Army was a miscellaneous unit of the Nationalist Army, which was reorganized from the Jiangsu Security Regiment and the Police Force in 1938, and was later merged, abolished, and restored several times, until it was annihilated by our army in Western Liaoning in September 1948, and the number was revoked.
At the end of 1948, the chairman of Guizhou Province and the commander of security of the Nationalist government, on the orders of Chiang Kai-shek, established the Sixth Formation Training Headquarters in Guizhou, with the 49th Army and the 89th Army under its jurisdiction. It is equivalent to saying that the 89th Army has been revived again in a different place, but it still cannot get rid of the identity of the miscellaneous army.
Joining such an army, Long Shichang did not receive spiritual supplies and promotions except for being able to eat enough, but Long Shichang was always holding his breath and seemed to be waiting for something.

Songtao County is a Miao settlement, located in the northeast of Guizhou, this land has never lacked blood, before there was a famous General of the Qing Dynasty, Yang Fang, the second class of Guo Yong Marquis, a little earlier than Long Shichang, there was also Ou Baichuan, who followed He Long to participate in the August 1st Nanchang Uprising, and ou Baichuan, who became the vice governor of Guizhou Province after the founding of the People's Republic of China, in addition to Long Xibo, Shi Liudeng and other tragic heroes of the uprising.

The turning point occurred at the end of 1949, when Long Shichang's unit revolted in Qinglong, Guizhou.
The leader of the Qinglong Uprising was None other than Zhang Tao, the new commander of the 89th Army, who knew the times and believed that the Kuomintang was in a position to go after the Battle of Huaihai, and through his underground Communists and other progressive figures, contacted our Party and became a hero for the peaceful liberation of the whole territory of Guizhou.
In April 1950, the second year of the uprising, Long Shichang was incorporated into the 17th Army of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.
After the liberation of Guizhou, Long Shichang's family was also allocated land. In order to defend the fruits of victory and let his family live a happy life, Long Shichang worked very hard in the army, actively learned all kinds of knowledge, pursued progress, and performed very actively in participating in the work of suppressing bandits and collecting grain in the southwestern region of Qianxi.
Second, confidence
After the outbreak of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, Long Shichang responded to the call, took the initiative to take the lead in signing up for the volunteer army, and was incorporated into the 1st Platoon of 3 Battalions, 8th Company, 1st Platoon, 1st Platoon, 1st Platoon, 1st Platoon, 1st Platoon, 1st Battalion, 134th Regiment, 134th Regiment, 45th Division, and joined the army in late October 1951.
At this time, although Long Shichang knew that the Korean battlefield was very hard, he did not have a bottom in his heart about whether he could withstand the test and win the battle against the American devils. After all, in the more than three years since he joined the army, although Long Shichang has participated in some bandit battles, he lacks experience in fighting with real knives and guns of the regular army, and the US army is not easy to mess with, and their weapons and equipment are too advanced.

Liu Xingwen was a Native Miao warrior of Nayong, Guizhou, who repelled enemy attacks more than a dozen times in the 1951 Park Dafeng Blockade Battle, killed more than a hundred enemy soldiers, and was honored with first-class merit, and was received by Chairman Mao and other central leaders.
Long Shichang and Liu Xingwen were in the same battalion, Liu Xingwen was in the 7th Company, and Long Shichang was in the 8th Company. When Long Shichang first arrived in North Korea, Liu Xingwen returned to China as a member of the delegation of combat heroes to make a tour report.
In early 1952, Liu Xingwen returned to the front line and met two Miao soldiers.
Long Shichang admired the battle hero in front of him, who was a few years younger than himself, and the two were as close as brothers. Liu Xingwen gave him a group photo of himself with Commander He Long, as well as a pen and a notebook, which was a great encouragement to Long Shichang, and he was secretly determined to learn from Xingwen.
In July 1952, Liu Xingwen unfortunately died, and Long Shichang was deeply saddened and secretly swore: "Never live up to the expectations of Comrade Liu Xingwen!" I'm going to avenge him!" Win glory for the motherland! Win glory for the Miao family! ”
Three months later, Long Shichang proved his oath with practical actions.
Third, glory
On October 14, 1952, the Battle of Shangganling began. The U.S. military fired 300,000 shells a day into Shangganling, less than 4 square kilometers, where the volunteers were located, with 60,000 men and more than 300 artillery pieces, and dropped more than 500 heavy bombs by aircraft. The volunteers were forced to turn into tunnels, and americans occupied surface positions.
On October 19, in the battle of the main peak of the 597.9 highland of Shangganling, the 8th Company of the 3rd Battalion, where Long Shichang was located, rushed out of the tunnel amid the roaring cannon and was responsible for capturing the No. 3 and No. 9 positions of the main peak.
When the 8th Company captured Position 9 and then pounced on Position 3, it was indiscriminately strafed by 6 machine guns in the US bunker, which made our commanders and fighters unable to lift their heads.
It was too late, it was fast, Long Shichang was holding a blaster, and under the cover of his comrades-in-arms, he jumped to the enemy bunker in a zigzag and jumped from this crater to another. When he was about to approach the enemy bunker, he was unexpectedly knocked over by a shell of the enemy, and the shrapnel cut off his left leg at knee level. Ignoring the pain, Long Shichang dragged the broken leg that was bleeding profusely, mobilizing the last energy under the limit of life to continue creeping forward.
Decades later, Long Shichang's company commander Li Baocheng still remembered the details of the time and said emotionally: "At that last moment, Long Shichang stomped on the ground with his unbroken right leg, desperately climbed to the front of the bunker, and put the blast jane into the shooting hole. At that time, I was overjoyed, well, this is it.
But Long Shichang was just about to turn over and dodge, when Demolition Jane was pushed out by the enemy inside and smoked. Only to see Long Shichang pick it up and poke it in. Poking in half a cut can not move, must be the people inside pushed out. Long Shichang was injured like that and could still push the enemy? He pressed his chest against The Blaster Jane, pressed it in hard, and pressed it into it for most of it and exploded. His entire body was shattered into pieces, and we didn't find any remains. At that time, I didn't shed a tear, there were too many people who died, and my heart and intestines hardened, and I couldn't cry at all! ”
Long Shichang's series of moves really embodies the character of Guizhou people's daily drums.

At that time, the battle was fiercely fought like that, and the soldiers were all killed, whether it was charging or bombing the bunker, where would they shout with me, the company commander? After Long Shichang's heroic sacrifice, the commanders and fighters of the counterattack force shouted the slogan of "avenge Long Shichang", rushed to the top of the mountain, eliminated the enemy in position 9, and recaptured the 597.9 heights.
In an unprecedentedly fierce tug-of-war with the enemy for 7 days and 7 nights, the 45th Division annihilated more than 7,000 enemy casualties of more than 3,200 people. After this battle, our basic position was stabilized, the enemy's offensive was completely thwarted, and our army shifted from passive to active.
4. Commemoration
Later, according to statistics, during the 43-day Battle of Shangganling, there were more than a dozen heroes and heroes who died with the enemy, in addition to Long Shichang, there was also the most well-known Huang Jiguang, Huang Jiguang was also in the 135th Regiment of the 45th Division, a messenger of the 2nd Battalion, and also in the big counterattack battle on the morning of October 19, he blocked the enemy machine gun firing port with his chest, sacrificed heroically, and was later posthumously honored with the title of special meritorious and special combat hero.
In November 1952, Long Shichang was posthumously honored as a special merit by the Volunteer Army Headquarters and the Political Department, and awarded the title of second-class combat hero. North Korea also awarded him the Order of Hero, the National Flag Medal of the Second Class, and named a primary school "Sechang Elementary School."
On National Day in 1953, Long Shichang's mother, Tian Xiangmei, was elected as a representative of the Guizhou Provincial National Day Viewing Group, went to the capital to celebrate, and was cordially received by Chairman Mao and other party and state leaders, who also praised her in person for cultivating heroes for the motherland.
Long Shichang's heroic deeds have been recorded in the annals of history such as "The Legend of the Heroes of the Volunteer Army", which has not only become the prototype of Wang Cheng in "Heroes and Children", but also the prototype of Yang Decai in the famous movie "Shangganling".
In order to commemorate Long Shichang, the people of Songtao renamed his district, township and village as Shichang District, Shichang Township and Shichang Village, and now Shichang Village of Shichang Subdistrict.
In 2006, Songtao County restored the former residence of Long Shichang, built Shichang Square in the county seat, erected a sculpture of Long Shichang, and former Minister of National Defense Chi Haotian personally inscribed the four characters of "Shichang Square", which became an important base for promoting patriotic spirit education.
