Li Shutong was a talented man, and in 1894, at the age of 15, he recited a surprising poem: "Life is like the day of the western mountains, and wealth is like frost on the grass." "This grass frost reminds us of the tears on the flowers with rain in the pear blossoms, the two concepts of frost on the grass and tears on the flowers, the frost on the grass is fleeting, but the tears between the flowers are the long years." Therefore, in Li Shutong's fleeting grass frost, we think of the tears on the flowers of the Spring Mountain Lady's pear blossom with rain, that tear is different from the frost from the outside and the natural world, but from the heart of the Spring Mountain Lady, in the long years, it is clear that it has not dried up, and each one is like a round pearl.
Hupao Temple, located in Daci Mountain, southwest of Hangzhou. Legend has it that the tang dynasty monks lived here empty, and later prepared to move away due to water shortages. But one night, sexual emptiness was instructed by God in a dream: There was a boy spring in The Heng Mountain in Nanyue, and when the second tiger was sent, it was moved. After dawn, Sex Void saw two tigers come to the temple to make a cave, and the stone wall gushed out spring water, hence the name Tiger Run. In August 1918, the 39-year-old Li Shutong was officially ordained at Hupao Temple, and Hupao Temple became the place where this famous modern artist and patriotic monk practiced Buddhism.
Li Shutong, a native of Pinghu, Zhejiang, studied in Japan and was good at oil painting, music, drama and calligraphy, and later taught at the Liangzhe Normal School. After the shaving of the Tiger Run Temple, the Dharma name is performed, the trumpet Ishiroichi, and the other is the old man of Wanqing. The news soon spread throughout Hangzhou, and even became a sensation in China's cultural and educational circles since the Republic of China. In the midst of the hype, Shuko Haruyama took her half-year-old daughter, who was born in the same year, and began to search all the way from Shanghai. When Li Shutong became a monk, he did not leave a single word for Chunshan Shuzi, and after Chunshan Shuzi arrived in Hangzhou, he looked for seven or eight temples to find Li Shutong. Li Shutong invited Shuko Haruyama and her daughter to eat a bowl of vegetarian rice at a vegetarian restaurant near the temple.
Shuko Haruyama said, "Come home with me." ”
Li Shutong said, "Where do I still have a home?" ”

After the meal, it was already close to the evening, and the sunset burned tragically like Li Shutong's poem "Life is like the Day of the Western Mountains", And Li Shutong hired a small boat in the sunset to send Lady Chunshan and her daughter on board, and at the same time, took out some things prepared in advance to make a final farewell to Shuzi and her daughter. Those things were: a watch, a poem, a letter and a beard of Uncle Li and Uncle Li's salary for several months.
Cousin Li Shutong has been worn for many years, the poem is written by Li Shutong himself, and many people know the masterpieces that have been handed down through the generations: "Outside the long pavilion, beside the ancient road, the grass is green and the sky is blue... Ask jun when he will come, and when he comes, mo will linger..." There is also such a story about it: When Uncle Li was in the customs, there was a winter when heavy snow was flying, and old Shanghai was desolate at that time. His friend Xu Xianyuan stood outside the door and shouted out Li Shutong and Miss Yezi, saying: "Uncle Brother, my family is bankrupt, we will have a period later." After saying that, he parted with tears in his eyes, and did not even enter his house. Uncle Li watched Xu Xianyuan go away and stood in the snow for a whole hour, and even Miss YeZi called him many times, and he didn't hear it. Then, he went back to the house and closed the door, let Miss Leaf play the piano, and wrote the "Farewell Song" with tears. Now, he used it to bid farewell to his wife, Shuko Haruyama, and his daughter, and although there was no heavy snowfall, the setting sun burned a blood-dripping heart.

Of course, men sending women beards is different from women sending men hair: in ancient times, knotting hair refers to marriage as a couple, and when a couple gets married, they will take off a bunch of hair by themselves and cooperate with each other, which is a beautiful symbol of staying together for a lifetime. Li Shutong's sending beard to Chunshan Shuzi is actually a kind of farewell to the world, telling Chunshan Shuzi that everything in the red dust is no longer worth his attachment. A soft beard like a knife like a scissor, deeply stabbed the heart of a woman who longed to turn white with him.
Holding the salary, Li Shutong hoped that Chunshan Shuzi could forget himself and return to Japan, Chunshan Shuzi was in tears, hoping that he could hug his daughter, Li Shutong folded his hands and did not agree. Shuko Haruyama asked desperately, "Can you tell me what love is?" ”
Li Shutong said: "Love is compassion. ”
Shuko Haruyama cried and cried, "You are merciful to the world, why did you hurt me alone?!" The boat was far away, and soon it was drowned in the night of Hangzhou in September, so the farewell became an eternal trick, and the dark and gloomy night seemed to become eternal, so that the two never saw each other again.
He met Shuko Haruyama in 1905, when Li Shutong was 26 years old, and on March 10, his birth mother Wang Shi died of illness, and he returned to Tianjin with his family coffin. Subsequently, he left his first wife and two children in Tianjin and traveled east to Japan to study on his own. Because learning art painting requires nude sketching, the search for female models has become a problem for him. One day, he was painting in the room, he suddenly saw a beautiful woman like a cherry blossom floating by like never before, his heart suddenly moved, he couldn't help but put down the brush and rushed out of the studio, the woman smiled back at him, and the scene created was like the ancient Chinese poem: "Looking back at a smile of a hundred beautiful students, the six palaces are pink and colorless." He rushed forward and communicated with the woman in less proficient Japanese and gestures, hoping that the woman would come and be his full-time model.
The woman bowed her head shyly, but was deeply attracted by Uncle Li's gentle and elegant temperament, and a few days later, she couldn't help but walk into his studio. Li Shutong quietly admired the beauty of the woman taking off her clothes, and her painting skills greatly improved, but she couldn't help but feel excited again and again. Subsequently, the woman became his second wife, Shuko Haruyama, the daughter of his landlord when he was in Japan.
Six years later, Li Shutong returned to China with Shuko Haruyama, and at this time, they had an additional two-year-old son by their side. Li Shutong first worked as a drawing teacher at the Shanghai Higher Industrial School, and in 1912, he was hired by Heng Yizhi to go to Hangzhou to work as a teacher of music and drawing in the Zhejiang Two-Level Normal School. With a monthly salary of more than 100 yuan, returning to Shanghai on holidays to meet with Shuzi Chunshan is a life of calm and foam. However, in 1916, the 37-year-old Li Shutong had the idea of fasting in the mountains because of the Japanese magazine's introduction of "fasting" to cultivate the body and mind. In the past 21 days, Uncle Li has come into contact with Buddhist scriptures and the lives of monks, felt that fame and fortune in the world were illusory, and said that he was deeply influenced and "gradually realized" in Buddhism. After returning to school, he began to eat vegetarian, read the scriptures, and make offerings to the Buddha. At the end of March 1918, Shuko Haruyama bore him a daughter, but within half a year, he was officially ordained at Hupao Temple.
Why do you hurt me alone with your compassion for the world? After returning to Shanghai, Shuko Haruyama became seriously ill, and after more than two months, she sold all the belongings in the house, took her daughter, who was only 9 months old, her son, who was already 9 years old, and the souvenirs that Li Shutong gave her when she said goodbye in Hangzhou, left China and returned to Japan. A woman with two children, Haruyama Shuko had to ask her mother's family in Tokyo for help, but the answer was that her return made them humiliated and humiliated. Still one evening, still a small boat, Shuko Haruyama took a boat to Okinawa, where she was unaccompanied, and began a life of incognito.
In 1988, Haruyama Shuko and Li Shutong's daughter, Haruyama Youzi, was exactly 70 years old. In the spring of that year, Yuko Haruyama, who used to work in a local bank, served as the head of the Asian region of a Japanese fund and had the opportunity to visit China. At the age of 70, not knowing what her father was like, Chunshan Youzi came to Hangzhou Hupao Temple with the instructions of her mother, Shuzi Haruyama, but what she finally learned was the news that her father had been dead for 46 years.
Haruyama Youzi brought the news back to Japan and brought it to her mother, Shuko Haruyama, who took out the letter that Li Shutong had given her that year, "To Shuzi: Please Swallow This Bitter Wine", which is the general content:
You are extraordinary, please swallow this bitter wine, and then hold on to life... I don't think you have a vulgar, cowardly soul living inside you... In order not to increase your suffering, I will not go back to Shanghai... Life is short for decades, the limit is always coming, now it is just to advance it, we are going to separate sooner or later, may you see through.
Reading it, we feel the most deeply is the last sentence, wishing to be precious here has become a kind of cheap, and seeing through makes people can't help but think of a woman's cry - you are merciful to the world, why do you hurt me alone - can you see through - once you become a husband, you are the eternal man in the heart of the woman who becomes a wife! In 1996, Shuko Haruyama died at the age of 106. During her lifetime, she worked in a small clinic in a fishing village, and often went to the sea to fish to subsidize her family during the most difficult times of life. She said that her son later became a soldier and died in the Battle of Okinawa in 1945; she also said that he (Li Shutong) abandoned us and did not want us. But in her residence, there has been a painting, which is also a half-nude female portrait, which was also painted by Uncle Li. She said that the woman in the painting was what she looked like when she was young, herself.
In July 2020, Li Shutong's daughter Haruyama Youko in Japan passed away, and like her mother, Shuko Haruyama, she also lived a long life, living for 102 years. But neither her mother knew that her father, Uncle Li, had written the words "Intersection of Sorrow and Joy" on October 13, 1942, two days before his death at the age of 63, and said to Master Miaolian beside him: "You see tears in my eyes, this is not a nostalgia for the world, or thinking about my relatives, but remembering the regrets of my life." ”
What is Uncle Li's regret in the same life? No one can say for sure, but there must have been an apology to his wife, Shuko Haruyama, so he became the only Buddhist monk to shed tears before his death. Outside the long pavilion, beside the ancient road, the green grass... In this divided emotion in the human world, who can see through everything? Although Shuko Haruyama, who has lived for 106 years, has gone, she is still carrying the bowl of vegetarian rice, which has been soaked in tears.
