After building a number of bamboo sycamores
Chen Yan, a member of the Qing Dynasty Guangxu in the eighth year, was an aide to Liu Mingchuan, the inspector of Taiwan, who assisted in the construction of railways and the development of Taiwan's economy.
Chen Yan
During the Republic of China period, as a famous scholar, he successively taught at many universities and edited the 10 million-word "Fujian Tongzhi". Qian Zhongshu studied under Chen Yan and learned to write poetry.
Chen Yan's wife, Xiao Daoguan, a young woman of the late Qing Dynasty, had a strong wish: "I wish to build a number of buildings, and after the bamboo trees, the flowers and trees are in front of me." "It is to have its own home, spring and warm flowers, this is also Chen Yan's wish." Because he lost his father at an early age, his family was poor and had no fixed place to live, he had to move every three or four years, and after the age of 34, he was displaced in Shanghai, Wuchang, Beijing and other places. Therefore, in his later years, he returned to Fuzhou and spent his life savings to buy a house in Wenrufang, which is now the former residence of Chen Yan.
