Xiaomi SU7 owners: brake failure in 1-2 seconds, Xiaomi car: no need to panic, it is the software failure

Recently, the problem of suspected brake failure of Xiaomi cars has rushed to the hot search.

Here's the thing, on the evening of May 8, Mr. Li from Leiyang, Hunan Province drove a newly purchased Xiaomi SU7 car less than a month ago in the process of parking, the brake was suspected of suddenly failing, there was almost no damping when stepped on, there was no braking feeling, an alarm sounded in the car, and the screen then appeared "braking system failure" and other 4 abnormal messages.

Mr. Li was parked and the speed of the vehicle was not fast, after the vehicle slid to a stop, he called the SOS emergency system in the car, but no one answered for a long time, and an hour and a half later, local roadside assistance arrived to tow the vehicle back to the Changsha delivery center.

After the engineer overhauled, Xiaomi Auto said at first that the vehicle's brake did not fail, but after the incident, the technical expert took him to check the data of the brake pressure, and found that the pressure value was indeed zero for a few seconds when the brake was pressed, that is, the braking effect was lost, that is, the brake failed.

Subsequently, an expert came to Beijing overnight, and conducted another investigation, the result was that the brake did not fail, and the braking force would come back after a while, and the subjective feeling was not accurate, but when checking the data, it was found that when the brake was pressed, the pressure value was 0 for a few seconds, Mr. Li asked, does this mean that the brake failed, and the experts and staff did not speak.

"If you're driving at high speeds, and the brake pressure value is zero in 1 to 2 seconds, is it possible to hit it in a second or two?"

After the car was sent for inspection, it suddenly "healed itself", and the after-sales service said that it could drive away at any time, but Mr. Li did not dare, he hoped to find out the cause of the vehicle failure.

On the 13th, Wang Hua, general manager of the public relations department of Xiaomi Group, responded to this matter, saying that the matter was a software misidentification, and the vehicle hardware was confirmed to have no mechanical failure or damage.

As for why it was a software misjudgment, Wang Hua explained that Xiaomi cars are designed with DPB+ESP dual backup mechanism. At that time, the main controller of braking, that is, DPB, was indeed misjudged by the software, resulting in the brake fluid being withdrawn from the DPB by the ESP, the pressure of the brake master cylinder was rapidly reduced, and the driver stepped on the pedal "insufficient foot feeling". But ESP, or auxiliary brake controller, has been taken to provide brake deceleration for the vehicle.

In the early morning of May 9, the staff of the service center checked the vehicle hardware to confirm that there was no mechanical failure/damage, and after operating the self-inspection program of the vehicle's braking system, the large-screen brake failure prompt disappeared and the vehicle returned to normal. The staff indicated to the user that they could support the user's request for return/exchange, and at the same time cover the expenses incurred due to the return and exchange.

However, Mr. Li did not buy this response, and still had doubts about the brake failure of this car, and his family was reluctant to change the car. Mr. Li also directly asked Wang Hua on Weibo whether it was dangerous to lose the brake in 1-2 seconds, and Wang Hua responded that Mr. Li's claim that the braking effect was lost in 1-2 seconds was wrong. And said that Xiaomi SU7 has a total of four brakes, which can greatly guarantee safety. In Wang Hua's words, although there is no damping when the brake is pressed, there is still a braking effect on the wheels.

Mr. Li was not satisfied with such a response, "I believe in Xiaomi so much, this is the car that Xiaomi sold me?" Can this kind of car be on the road?" In response to the online rumors that he demanded 10 million yuan in compensation from Xiaomi Automobile, Mr. Li said that he did not ask Xiaomi to compensate him.

It is worth noting that this is not the first time that Xiaomi cars have been exposed to system failures recently. According to media reports, on May 5, Mr. Wen from Fujian released a video saying that the Xiaomi SU7 just mentioned broke down after 39 kilometers out of the delivery center, and the system displayed "The vehicle is about to close, please pull over safely" and "The drive system is faulty and cannot be shifted".
