Veterans "invisible" for more than 30 years after returning from the Korean battlefield: the great-granddaughter of the so-called "living martyr" joined the army in September

October 25, 2021, is the 71st anniversary of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea. Three years ago, in Yuechi County, Guang'an, Sichuan, an old hero who had participated in the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea left peacefully.

Bidding farewell to this world with the old hero, as well as the 24 scars on his body, the mutilated index finger of his right hand and countless medals, he is Chai Yunzhen, who won the honorary title of "First Class Combat Hero" of the Volunteer Army and was awarded the "First Class Freedom and Independence Medal" by North Korea. On the morning of June 29 this year, chai Yunzhen was one of three "July 1st Medal" recipients who could never be present at the "July 1st Medal" ceremony held in Beijing.

Chai Yunzhen grew up poor, worked as a small long-term worker in a landlord's family, and joined the people's army in the Liberation War. During the Battle of Huaihai, Chai Yunzhen joined the 132nd Regiment of the 44th Division of the 15th Army of the People's Liberation Army and fought for the liberation of the whole country. In December 1949 in Guangxi, Chai Yunzhen, together with more than a dozen comrades, solemnly raised his hand to swear to join the party in front of the bright red party flag. In Bijie, Guizhou, he led a team to suppress bandits overnight, went deep into the tiger's den, and captured 8 bandits alive without spending a single shot or a bullet.

In 1950, the Korean War broke out, and Chai Yunzhen joined the volunteer army. In May 1951, Chai Yun-jin's unit was tasked with blocking the enemy forces in the Shibaura area of Gangwon Province, 30 kilometers southwest of Kim Hwa, North Korea. At that time, Chai Yunzhen led the few remaining fighters in the class to directly penetrate the enemy group, and in only 20 minutes, he captured 3 positions, defeated dozens of times the enemy, and created a miracle on the battlefield. In a hand-to-hand fight with the enemy, the index finger of his right hand was bitten off, and he was injured in 24 places on his body, and passed out on the spot. After the battle, Chai Yunzhen, who was unconscious with a head injury, was sent to the field hospital, and after waking up, he was transferred to the hospital in Baotou, where he lost contact with his troops.

In April 1952, Chai Yunzhen returned to the countryside of Yuechi County, Sichuan Province, without mentioning his own merits, and became a farmer in a down-to-earth manner with a third-class B disabled soldier certificate and a demobilization fee of 500 kilograms of food stamps. It has been learned that after the troops lost contact with Chai Yunzhen that year, after many unsuccessful searches, the heroic medal issued to Chai Yunzhen by the headquarters of the Volunteer Army was not collected, and the exhibition hall of the DPRK Military Museum hung a "portrait" of the hero Chai Yunzhen.

On the other hand, Chai Yunzhen, who returned to his hometown, never told people about his past experiences, until 30 years later, after the old troops repeatedly published newspapers to find him, his deeds resurfaced. On the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, Chai Yunzhen was invited to Go to North Korea and retrieved his "posthumous image" from the North Korean Military Museum, and was awarded the "Order of Freedom and Independence of the First Class" by the DPRK.

In the eyes of his family, Chai Yunzhen is very kind to his younger generations, and he often conducts ideological education for the younger generations who participate in the work, and he must be clean and innocent with two sleeves. Chai Yunzhen's granddaughter Chai Ping told Red Star News that the lessons that their grandfather taught them before he died have been remembered by the younger generations. "Grandpa has a special affection for the military, and he hopes that every generation in the family will have someone to join the army." Chai Ping said that her father and second uncle had served as soldiers, and she herself had also become soldiers.

In September this year, Chai Ping's daughter also joined the army with honor and became a soldier. Chai Ping said that her daughter is a sophomore and joined the army, which is the family's family style inheritance and a personal mission as the fourth generation of the family.

Chai Ping said that after her grandfather's death, at every important time node, her family would go to her grandfather's grave to pay tribute and tell her grandfather about the situation in her family. Sometimes when they go to their grandfather's tomb, they will find that someone in front of the tomb has already sent "blooming" flowers, and there are cards with messages written on them, which makes them very moved, although the hero has passed away, but has always been remembered.

The combat hero who died nine times, successively participated in the Liberation War, the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, known as "The Living Huang Jiguang", is one of the prototypes of "Who is the Cutest Man". In 1951, during the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, Park Dafeng killed more than a hundred enemy soldiers and fought bloodily until he was alone. In 1952, he was disabled and demobilized and returned to his hometown to work as a farmer, never mentioning his own merits, and silently dedicated his life to the party and the people. He was awarded the honorary title of "Combat Hero of the First Class" by the Volunteer Army and was awarded the "Order of Freedom and Independence of the First Class" by the DPRK.
