In 1990, the Meitan County Government cooperated with Zhejiang University to build this exhibition hall to protect and use the Meitan Temple of Literature. Meitan Temple of Literature is one of the three best-preserved temples of literature in Guizhou Province.
In addition to the Zhejiang University Westward Migration History Museum, Meitan has eight other former sites of Zhejiang University, which are important historical sites of Zhejiang University and were declared as national key cultural relics protection units by the State Council in 2006. The Meitan Zhejiang University Westward Migration History Exhibition Hall is divided into six parts, including the North Temple, the South Temple, the Bell Tower, the Drum Tower, the Dacheng Hall and the Chongsheng Shrine. With a construction area of 2,600 square meters, the museum is one of the few thematic exhibition halls in the country with the theme of the history of the westward migration of universities during the Anti-Japanese War period. According to data from the State Administration of Cultural Heritage in September 2020, the museum has a collection of 154 collections/sets and 37 pieces/sets of precious cultural relics, held 2 exhibitions, carried out 2 educational activities, and received 141,000 visitors.
