The History Museum of China University of Petroleum will be completed and opened in 2021, with a total construction area of 3,500 square meters, and the exhibition volume and capital investment rank among the top universities in the country. With the goal of publicizing and telling the stories of scientists, innovation groups, and scientific research groups in the field of petroleum and energy, seeking oil for the country, empowering the country, patriotic innovation, truth-seeking and dedication, and collaborative education, the school history museum has built a community for the display of scientists' deeds and scientists' spirit, and in May 2023, it was selected as a national scientist spirit education base.
The main exhibition areas include the exhibition area of the first batch of returned scientists before and after the founding of the People's Republic of China, and the huge oil painting "The Return of Righteousness", the special exhibition area of Academician Cao Benxi, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the winner of the special prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, and the "hero of the two bombs", the exhibition area of the first batch of petroleum science and technology and petroleum educators in New China, the special exhibition area of Mr. Yang Guanghua, a petrochemical expert, educator and "old scientist with outstanding contributions" who was judged by the Ministry of Personnel, and the academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Sciences trained during the period of Beijing Petroleum Institute. The content of the exhibition focuses on masters, highlights scholars, and builds a community of scientists' deeds and scientists' spirit. From the first batch of returned scientists in New China, to a group of scientific and technological experts in the period of reform and opening up, and then to a group of strategic scientists in the new era, the school history museum exhibits and displays famous teachers in the 70-year development history of petroleum education.
The exhibits in the University History Museum are diverse and rich in substance, providing first-hand materials to promote the spirit of scientists. More than 600 pieces of physical objects are exhibited, including: scientists' letters, manuscripts, textbooks, award certificates, newspapers, pennants, medals, plaques, calligraphy and paintings, etc., as well as a number of precious objects represented by the letter of appointment issued by Premier Zhou Enlai, so that the audience can perceive the demeanor of scientists at "zero distance" and provide first-hand materials for promoting the spirit of scientists. The exhibition forms are rich and diverse, high-end and modern, deepening the interactive and immersive visiting experience, and launching a VR school history museum and an intelligent guide system. Since its selection, it has received about 40,000 people from all over the country, including teachers and students from universities, primary and secondary schools, alumni and guests from all over the world, and has been highly praised by all walks of life.
