Police said a waitress at a popular restaurant in New York was attacked by three women from Texas after she asked for evidence that they had been vaccinated against COVID-19.

According to the Associated Press, police said that while three women from Texas were dining at Carmine's in New York on Thursday afternoon, the waitress asked them to show proof of vaccination, and the three women repeatedly beat her and ripped off her necklace.

Police said the 24-year-old victim had multiple scratches and abrasions on her body, but she refused medical attention.

Police arrested three women charged with misdemeanors and criminal mischief and were ordered to appear in court on October 5.

New York City requires vaccination certificates in indoor restaurants, gyms and entertainment venues starting Aug. 17, but it didn't start until this week.

Carmine's has two stores in New York and branches in places like Las Vegas, and is known for serving pasta and other Italian dishes.
