For such rumors, Samsung did not respond positively, but turned around in a recent conference call, saying that the amount of its own chip foundry orders in the next five years is 8 times that of last year, and the list is too many to be received, and it also said that it has the ability to guarantee the supply of chips before 2027.
The industry expects that according to Samsung's last-generation work orders, the giant's order volume will reach 200 trillion won (about 1.05 trillion yuan) in five years. More importantly, Samsung's 3nm chip is very likely to achieve mass production in the second quarter, if this is the case, the scale of Samsung FOUNDries orders will be further expanded.
You know, recently TSMC and Samsung have focused on the 3nm field, and everyone knows that whoever preemptively mass-produces 3nm chips will be able to occupy the commanding heights of future chip manufacturing. Now Samsung said that 3nm is about to be launched, which will be the world's first 3nm chip, which invisibly gives TSMC some pressure.
It is understood that the main task of TSMC this year is to increase the production of 4nm and 5nm chips, and the first batch of 3nm chips is expected to be shipped in 2023.
But Samsung for the time being can not deter TSMC in the chip manufacturing industry in the leading position, do not look at TSMC 3nm chip has not yet come out, people are multi-handed preparation, has rushed to develop 2nm chips, is expected to mass production in 2025, but also and Apple jointly developed 1nm chips.
In addition, some people in the industry "support" TSMC, believing that Samsung's 3nm chip is actually equivalent to TSMC's 4nm chip, and the former chip yield may have problems, saying that Samsung's 3nm chip rush is to win face and lose.
