In early April, research institute MMI released the "2021 Global EMS (Electronic Manufacturing Services) Foundry Top 50 List". According to the information in the list, the total sales of the world's top 50 electronic foundry companies reached 417 billion US dollars, an increase of about 9.9% year-on-year.

In terms of regional distribution, the Asia-Pacific region accounted for 82%, followed by the Americas (16%). China has 15 companies (including Hong Kong and Taiwan), followed by the United States (8), Japan (5), Malaysia (4), Canada and Germany 2 each. Let's take stock of the top ten vendors.

Ranked tenth is Tenhiro. Headquartered in Toronto, Canada, Tianhong provides services such as design, prototype production, PCB assembly, testing, quality assurance, failure analysis, packaging, global logistics and after-sales technical support. According to the data, the net profit attributable to the common shareholders of the parent company in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2021 was $31.9 million and operating income was $1.512 billion.

In ninth place is the new Jinbao. As one of the world's top 500 enterprises, New Jinbao has achieved results in the fields of 3D printing technology, semiconductor design, artificial intelligence service robots, big data analysis and application, and is one of the leading enterprises with the most industry influence, market competitiveness and industry driving force in the field of global electronic information.

In eighth place is New Meiya. As a pioneer in the field of EMS, New Meiya once occupied a leading position in the industry. However, the company has been on the decline since the early 1990s. With the rapid expansion of competitors in size and business scope, the advantages of New Meiya are gradually being lost.

To reinvigorate its former glory, the 40-year-old outsourcing pioneer is undergoing radical change. Over the past two years, the company has established a new leadership team and undertaken radical reforms to expand the company's traditional PC manufacturing business into the field of communications equipment, and this transformation has been achieved through mergers and acquisitions. At the same time, SCI is committed to investing in IT and supply chain management systems, focusing on strengthening ties with suppliers and users, and striving to establish a new image of a well-known electronics manufacturing service provider (EMS).

USI ranked seventh. This is a Sino-foreign joint venture, registered in Shanghai, the main business includes providing domestic and foreign brand manufacturers with communications, computers and storage, consumer electronics, industrial and other categories (mainly automotive electronics) five categories of electronic products development and design, material procurement, manufacturing, logistics and maintenance and other professional services.

It is understood that as of the end of 2021, its main business income is 55.3 billion yuan, net profit is 1.858 billion yuan, total assets are 5.56%, total liabilities are 22.774 billion yuan, and shareholders' equity excluding minority shareholders' interests is 13.082 billion yuan

Sixth place is BYD Electronics. After more than 20 years of development, BYD Electronics has become the industry's leading SUPPLIER of EMS and ODM (Original Design and Manufacturing), providing one-stop services such as design, R &D, manufacturing, logistics, and after-sales service with smart phones and notebook computers, new intelligent products and automotive intelligent systems as the core. In addition to receiving assembly orders for Apple's iPad, its customers also include Xiaomi, Huawei, Apple, Samsung, Honor and so on.

According to the financial report, BYD Electronics achieved revenue of 89.057 billion yuan last year, an increase of 21.79% year-on-year; net profit of 2.310 billion yuan, down 57.55% year-on-year. Among them, the revenue of the smartphone and notebook business was 71.632 billion yuan, an increase of 47.03% year-on-year.

In fifth place is Flextronics. Flex was founded in Silicon Valley in the late 1960s. Initially, it mainly provided circuit board soldering for electronics companies in California. Later, it gradually entered Singapore, Mexico, Brazil, China and other places, becoming the world's largest EMS company at the beginning of this century.

It is worth mentioning that Flextronics was once Huawei's gold foundry, and can get $2.5 billion in orders a year, ranking first among all American companies. In 2019, they "fell into the well", stopped production and refused to ship, and refused to return equipment and materials. Huawei had to fight back and remove it from its supply chain. Changsha Flextronics plant stopped production, BYD took over.

In fourth place is Jabil. Jabil is a manufacturing solutions provider that provides integrated design, manufacturing, supply chain and product management. Its business involves industry, packaging, communications and other fields, with more than 100 factories and more than 260,000 employees in 30 countries around the world. Ranked 104th among the Fortune 500 companies in the United States in 2021.

It is worth mentioning that Taiwanese enterprises are in the top three. In third place is Wistron, formerly known as Acer Computer Co., Ltd.'s DMS division (Design, Production and Service Division) established in 1981. Wistron is positioned as a specialist ODM supplier focused on information and communication products, including notebook computers, desktop computer systems, servers and storage devices, information devices, networking and communications products. Last year's total revenue was NT$1,928.3 billion.

In second place is asus Group. In 2008, it was separated from asus's parent company, mainly engaged in the foundry business, and gradually increased the proportion of IPhone assembly foundry business under Apple's strategy of actively supporting second suppliers. The two factories in Shanghai and Kunshan are its iPhone foundries that have been put into operation, accounting for 20%-30% of the global iPhone production capacity.

Ranking first is Hon Hai Precision (Foxconn). Foxconn Technology Group is a high-tech enterprise of Hon Hai Precision Group in Taiwan, founded in 1974 in Taipei City, Taiwan Province of China, and its president is Terry Gou. Now it has more than 1.2 million employees and the world's top customer base. Last year, the Group's operating income reached NT$5,994.174 billion (about RMB1,335.8 billion) and net profit of NT$139.32 billion (about RMB31 billion), up 12% and 37% year-on-year, respectively.
