TSMC expects to start production of 3nm chips by the end of 2022

Webmaster's House (ChinaZ.com) December 24 News: According to industry sources cited by DigiTimes, TSMC plans to start commercial production of chips based on its 3nm process in the fourth quarter of 2022.

Apple is expected to release its first devices with TSMC-made 3nm chips in 2023, including the Mac with M3 chips and the iPhone 15 model with A17 chips. As usual, using a more advanced 3nm process will improve performance and energy efficiency, which will enable faster speeds and longer battery life on future Macs and iPhones.

The Information's Wayne Ma reported last month that some M3 chips will have as many as four chips, which he said could support up to 40 core CPUs. In contrast, the M1 chip has an 8-core CPU, and the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips have a 10-core CPU.

The M1 Mac already offers industry-leading performance machines, and the A15 chip in the iPhone 13 model is one of the fastest processors in smartphones, so switching to a 3nm process in a few years should cement Apple's lead in the field.
