On April 29, the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) announced that Tesla Motors (Beijing) Co., Ltd. and Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. had filed a recall plan with the State Administration for Market Regulations in accordance with the requirements of the Regulations on the Administration of the Recall of Defective Automobile Products and the Implementation Measures for the Administration of the Recall of Defective Automobile Products.
As of April 29, 2022, a total of 14,684 imported and domestically produced Model 3 high-performance electric vehicles with production dates from January 12, 2019 to March 25, 2022 will be recalled (including 1,850 imported cars and 12,834 domestic vehicles).
1. Less than 8 recalls a year, involving 676,000 delivered vehicles
According to the information of the State Administration for Market Regulation, in addition to the batch of Model 3 on the 29th, on April 7, Tesla also issued a recall to produce some imported and domestic Model 3 electric vehicles from January 11, 2019 to January 25, 2022, with a total of 127785 (including 34207 imported Model 3 cars and 93578 domestic Model 3 cars).
Two recalls in the month involved a total of 142,500 vehicles, and both were Model 3 electric vehicles.
Further ahead, according to the information released by the General Administration, on February 28, 2022, Tesla announced the recall of some domestic Model 3 (12,003) and Model Y (14,044) electric vehicles produced between December 28, 2020 and January 15, 2022, a total of 26,047;
On December 31, 2021, Tesla recalled a total of 19,697 Model S electric vehicles and 180044 Model 3 electric vehicles (including imported and domestically produced);
On December 3, Tesla recalled some domesticAlly produced Model Y electric vehicles with production dates from February 4, 2021 to October 30, 2021, totaling 21,599 units;
In November 2021, Tesla announced a recall of a total of 91 Model 3 vehicles imported from the production date from February 2, 2019 to October 20, 2019;
On June 26, 2021, Tesla Beijing recalled a total of 35,665 imported Model 3 vehicles, Tesla Shanghai recalled a total of 211256 domestic Model 3 electric vehicles, and recalled a total of 38,599 domestic Model Y electric vehicles;
On June 3, Tesla Beijing announced a recall of 734 imported Model 3 electric vehicles;
Since June last year alone, Tesla has issued a total of 8 recalls, with a total of 676,200 vehicles recalled, mainly concentrated in Model 3 and Model Y models.
In less than a year, car recalls are frequent and involve many vehicles. You know, Tesla's annual delivery volume in 2021 is only 936,000 vehicles.
On the one hand, Tesla's production capacity has increased significantly, especially Tesla's Shanghai factory delivered 484,100 vehicles last year, accounting for 52% of Tesla's global delivery; on the other hand, Tesla's frequent accidents and recalls in the Chinese market.
What is even more infuriating is that compared with the large-scale recall caused by quality problems in the domestic market, Tesla has few recall cases in the European and American markets.
According to the foreign car recall news data disclosed by the State Administration of Market Supervision, since 2018, Tesla has only had 5 recall records in the UK, South Korea, the United States, Germany and other markets, and the cumulative number of recalls is only more than 15,000 vehicles.
Behind the huge disparity in the number of recalls and the number of recalls at home and abroad, is Tesla more responsible for Chinese consumers, or is there more vehicle quality problems in the domestic market? This is another reverie with different chinese and foreign problems.
2, the central control screen failure out of the "ghost" Model3 reproduction "brake failure"
At about the same time as Tesla's latest recall of the Model 3, Ms. Zheng's Tesla electric car in Chengdu had a "supernatural incident", which scared her really well.
According to Red Star News, on the night of April 27, Ms. Zheng's Tesla car suddenly appeared in a desolate female voice "I died so unjustly", like a horror movie, frightening Ms. Zheng and her daughter to quickly abandon the car and flee.
On the 26th of the previous day, the central control screen of this Tesla repeatedly turned on the air conditioning panel automatically, and then quickly automatically closed; sometimes it automatically opened an APP, automatically operated; or the navigation map automatically opened and other phenomena.
Coincidentally, Ms. Zheng's car is also a Model 3, purchased in January 2021, and there has been no major problem before.
According to Ms. Zheng's recollection, at 9 p.m. on the 27th, when she finished picking up her daughter and drove home for only 5 minutes, Tesla automatically started the "Himalaya" APP and played a historical story. At the same time, the air conditioning panel on the car began to automatically turn on and off repeatedly, and the Himalaya APP also automatically switched other stories to play. "The air conditioning panel on the screen, the Himalayas, and the map are all 'always jumping, always jumping', and I think there is something wrong with the system."
Subsequently, Ms. Zheng called Tesla customer service, and the customer service told me to restart it. At about 9:30, after returning to the community to park the car, Ms. Zheng began to start the vehicle restart procedure, and then came the sound of "I died so wrong!" "The atmosphere is eerie and creepy.
By noon on the 28th, Ms. Zheng communicated with Tesla customer service again, and the customer service said that it may be that its on-board screen is malfunctioning, because the background detects that the screen has a large number of clicks in a short period of time. Customer service also provided a very key piece of information: on the evening of April 27, its car Himalayan APP played an audio called "Evil Heart", and the playback time also corresponded to the time of "haunting", and then confirmed that the above "ghost cry" was from a Himalayan audiobook.
On the way to the Red Star News reporter accompanying Ms. Zheng to the 4S shop for repair, the reporter also found that the vehicle's on-board screen repeatedly turned on the air conditioning panel and then closed, automatically opened the Himalaya or QQ music APP to play audio, automatically opened the map and other phenomena, and the screen often failed and could not be operated.
It can be seen that some of the central control screen systems of Tesla Model3 do have a certain degree of system hidden dangers;
On April 22, the owner of the Tesla Model 3 had a rear-end collision at the Beijing Airport No. 2 Expressway, and the owner said that "the car suddenly accelerated to 170 miles, and then the brakes failed." ”
Tesla said that it has retrieved background data for verification, the data shows that the driver avoids the truck in front and turns the steering wheel to the left, and the acceleration pedal is greatly pressed during the steering, causing the speed of the car to rise and eventually lead to the collision, and the driver did not step on the brake pedal before the collision.
On the black cat complaint platform, there have been many complaints about the failure of the brakes of Tesla Model3, ModelY and other models, and some have even caused collisions with large trucks and injuries to personnel.
According to the Central Broadcasting Network, Tesla's brake failure and sudden acceleration have also occurred abroad, but Tesla insisted that it was not a vehicle problem.
On April 7 this year, the State Administration for Market Regulation released the reasons for the Tesla recall, clearly stated that due to the difference in component manufacturing, the inverter can not control the current normally, "the fault occurs when the vehicle is in a parked state, which will cause the vehicle to fail to start; this failure occurs when the vehicle is in the driving state, which will cause the vehicle to lose driving power, and in extreme cases, it may increase the risk of collision of the vehicle, and there are safety hazards." ”
Obviously, the safety hazards of some Tesla models are extremely high, otherwise they would not be recalled so frequently and on a large scale in a short period of time.
The frequent hidden dangers of product quality in Tesla motors have also attracted the attention of the China Consumer Association.
In the "Annual Report on the Protection of The Rights and Interests of Chinese Consumers (2021)" released on April 22, new issues in rights protection caused by the consumption of new energy and intelligent vehicles were mentioned, among which the Tesla female car owner's roof protection incident that occurred at the Shanghai Auto Show last April was named.
In January this year, in the "Top Ten Consumer Rights Protection Public Opinion Hotspots in 2021" released by the China Consumer Association, Tesla's "roof rights protection" incident became the "hottest of the year" rights protection event.
However, although the rights protection incident has passed the first instance trial, there has not yet been a first-instance judgment; and the parties were in August 2021
Written materials were submitted to the State Administration for Market Regulation to investigate the brake failure, and there has been no substantive feedback to date.
