On January 29, 2021, the State Administration for Market Regulation issued a "Notice on the Recall of Some Xpeng G3 Electric Vehicles", and Guangzhou Xpeng Automobile Technology Co., Ltd. was entrusted to file a recall plan with the State Administration for Market Regulation in accordance with the requirements of the Administrative Regulations on the Recall of Defective Automobile Products and the Implementation Measures of the Administrative Regulations on the Recall of Defective Automobile Products, and decided that from January 30, 2021, A total of 13,399 Xpeng G3 vehicles manufactured between March 29, 2019 and September 27, 2020 are recalled.
According to the content of the recall notice at that time, the inverter had no high-voltage power supply due to the tin-plated terminal connected to the copper row screw on the DC bus capacitor of the inverter due to tin whiskers. When this happens, if the vehicle is parked, it may not be able to start again; If the vehicle is in a driving state, it may cause the vehicle to lose power, which is a potential safety hazard. Guangzhou Xpeng Automobile Technology Co., Ltd. will replace the improved inverter free of charge for vehicles covered by the recall to eliminate potential safety hazards.
The generation of tin whiskers is a secondary accident of components, which reflects the loopholes in the design of the inverter.
