In the first quarter, mobile phone sales plummeted, and the five major manufacturers re-ranked

In the past 4 months, who is the first domestic mobile phone brand?

On April 29, IDC released its global quarterly mobile phone tracking report, and China shipped 74.2 million smartphones in the first quarter of 2022, down 14.1% year-on-year. IDC believes the decline is due to weak demand due to the lack of product upgrades and the pandemic, and if the market continues to lack new stimulus measures, smartphone shipments will face downside risks of less than 300 million units.

To sum it up, this is one of the reasons I use most often - the environment is not OK.

However, no matter what the environment is, according to the shipment volume, market share and year-on-year growth of each brand, it can still be divided into first and second.

In the first quarter of 2022, the top five domestic manufacturers in China's smartphone market are OPPO, Honor, Vivo (including iQOO), Apple, and Xiaomi (including Redmi).

In the first quarter, mobile phone sales plummeted, and the five major manufacturers re-ranked

OPPO: 13.7 million units, 18.5% share;

Glory: 13.5 million units, 18.2% share, up 291.7% year-on-year;

vivo (including iQOO): 13.3 million units, 17.9% share;

Apple: 12.4 million units, 16.7% share;

Xiaomi (including Redmi): 11 million units, 14.9% share

According to IDC, OPPO was able to rank first in the first quarter of 2022, thanks to the good sales performance of the Reno7 series and A series. In the high-end market, OPPO Find N has helped OPPO establish an innovative image well, successfully attracting the attractiveness of users and enhancing OPPO's channel share.

System optimization aside, OPPO Find N's compact body, exquisite design and flagship configuration are enough to give it a place in today's folding screen market.

Honor performed the most eye-catching, and when the other 4 brands and "others" declined, Honor became the only and maintained a super high growth rate, an increase of 291.7% year-on-year, ranking second. Honor's excellent performance was driven by a lower baseline year and good performance in the Honor 60 and X30 series, contributing approximately 60% of shipments. The launch of honor magic 4 also strengthens honor's position in the high-end market.

Vivo's main product line faced declines, while iQOO maintained its growth momentum through the launch of new products. Notably, vivo's stable performance of the S series and the price adjustment of the X70 series helped it maintain its market share in the $400 to $600 range.

If the market structure is placed in the global smartphone market, Samsung, Apple, and Xiaomi are the top three. IDC said that in the first quarter of 2022, global smartphone shipments were 314.1 million units, down 8.9% year-on-year, which is also the third consecutive quarter of decline. IDC said this is because the supply chain and transportation are being imaged, and because consumer confidence is generally negative, and manufacturers are expected to adopt a more conservative growth strategy in 2022.

Of course, this is only a word, CINNOResearch, Canalys, Counterpoint and other market data agencies have also recently released research reports. In their report, the rankings are as follows:

In the first quarter, mobile phone sales plummeted, and the five major manufacturers re-ranked

OPPO, Honor, Vivo, Apple, Xiaomi;

vivo, OPPO, Apple, Honor, Xiaomi.

If you count IDC, OPPO is ranked first in the rankings of two institutions, and Honor and Vivo are each ranked first in one institution. It is worth noting that although there are rankings between manufacturers, if you carefully compare the market share data, you will find that there is not much gap between them, and Apple relies on relatively high customer unit prices to obtain most of the profits.

Among them, Counterpoint also mentioned Huawei, Huawei's market share in the first quarter of this year was 6.2%, down 64.2% year-on-year, and the impact of sanctions is still deepening. But Huawei is still insisting on launching new products, such as the release of a new folding screen Huawei Mate XS 2, Huawei WATCH GT 3 Pro, Huawei bracelet 7, AX6 router and so on on the evening of April 28.

One thing to say is that a manufacturer who can't get a chip supply because of sanctions has worked so hard, and other manufacturers really have no reason not to work hard.

Today is April 29th, followed by May Day, 618, the second half of the major brands and new machines equipped with new platforms come out, perhaps there will be new changes in the rankings, wait and see.
