You may lose power while driving! Tesla urgently recalled more than 120,000 vehicles!

"It is reported that from April 7, 2022, Tesla will recall a total of 127785 vehicles, and this recall was carried out in the case of the State Administration for Market Supervision and Administration launching a defect investigation."

More than a month after the last recall, Tesla recalled again.

According to the news of the State Administration for Market Regulation on April 7, Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. recently filed a recall plan with the State Administration for Market Regulations in accordance with the requirements of the Regulations on the Administration of the Recall of Defective Automobile Products and the Implementation Measures for the Administration of the Recall of Defective Automobile Products.

As of April 7, 2022, Tesla will recall some imported and domestically produced Model 3 electric vehicles with production dates from January 11, 2019 to January 25, 2022, for a total of 127785 (including 34,207 imported Model 3 vehicles and 93,578 domestic Model 3 vehicles).

Component manufacturing differences may exist

Driving or causing the vehicle to lose driving power

There may be minor manufacturing differences in the rear motor inverter power semiconductor components of vehicles within the scope of this recall, and the component manufacturing differences after some vehicles have been used for a period of time may cause the rear inverter to fail, resulting in the inverter not being able to control the current normally.

This failure occurs when the vehicle is in a parked state, which will cause the vehicle to fail to start; this failure occurs when the vehicle is in a driving state, which will cause the vehicle to lose driving power, and in extreme cases, it may increase the risk of collision of the vehicle, and there is a safety hazard.

In this regard, Tesla said that it will upgrade the motor control software for the vehicles within the scope of the recall through the vehicle remote upgrade (OTA) technology to closely monitor the rear motor inverter of the vehicle and replace the rear inverter with related failures in time to eliminate safety hazards.

In terms of "emergency measures", Tesla said that before the vehicle recalls the upgrade software, users should drive the vehicle cautiously and contact the Tesla service center for maintenance as soon as the recall begins.

The recall was carried out in the context of the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) initiating a defect investigation. Affected by the investigation, Tesla Motors (Beijing) Co., Ltd. and Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. decided to take recall measures to eliminate potential safety hazards.

More than 20,000 vehicles have just been recalled

Just over a month ago, on Feb. 18, Tesla had just made a recall in China.

On February 18, according to the website of the State Administration for Market Regulation, Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. recently filed a recall plan with the State Administration for Market Regulations in accordance with the requirements of the Regulations on the Administration of the Recall of Defective Automobile Products and the Implementation Measures for the Administration of the Recall of Defective Automobile Products. Recall some of the domestically produced Model 3 (12,003 units) and Model Y (14,044 units) electric vehicles produced between December 28, 2020 and January 15, 2022, for a total of 26,047 units.

The electronic expansion valve of the heat pump in some vehicles within the scope of the recall will have a slight movement when positioning, because the software (version 2021.44 to 2021.44.30.6) has no corrective function, which may cause the valve to be partially opened in the long run, the heat pump compressor to stop working, and the heating function in the car to fail.

In the above state, especially when the temperature outside the car is lower than minus 10 degrees, the windshield defrosting system cannot achieve the defrosting effect stipulated by the relevant national laws and regulations, and the decline of the defrost function adversely affects the driver's field of vision, thereby increasing the possibility of collision risk of the vehicle when driving in cold weather, and there is a safety hazard.

Since December last year, Tesla has recalled domestic electric vehicles four times. The previous two were: on December 3, 2021, Tesla Shanghai recalled some domestic Model Y electric vehicles, a total of 21,599 vehicles, mainly involving the knuckle problem; on December 31, 2021, Tesla Shanghai recalled some domestic Model 3 electric vehicles, a total of 144208 vehicles, mainly involving the trunk cover problem.

Multiple recalls have not affected Tesla's hot sales in China. According to the sales data released by the Association, Tesla's cumulative deliveries in China in 2021 will be about 321,000 units, an increase of about 133% compared with about 137,000 units in 2020.

Tesla's financial report disclosed that in 2021, the company's revenue in the Chinese market was $13.844 billion (about 88 billion yuan), an increase of 107.8% year-on-year, accounting for 25.7% of the total revenue, and China is Tesla's second largest single market. In contrast, Tesla's revenue in the United States, its largest market, was $23.973 billion, accounting for 44.6% of total revenue, but the growth rate was only 57.6%.

Tesla has raised prices several times since March

Tesla just raised prices in the U.S. and Chinese markets in March. Among them, the Chinese market has adjusted the price of vehicles three times on March 10, 15 and 17, involving the domestic Model 3 and Model Y models, and even models have increased prices many times, with the most models rising by 30,000 yuan.

In addition, Tesla has also recently adjusted its price in the German market, and the latest price of the German entry Model 3 has risen by 7,000 euros.

On April 7, according to Tesla's official website in the United States, Tesla once again raised the price of the American Model 3 Long Range (long range) and Performance (high-performance version) models.

Specifically, the starting price of the Model 3 Long Range (long-range version) was adjusted to $55,990, an increase of $1,500 from the previous $54,490; the starting price of the Model 3 Performance (High Performance Edition) was adjusted to $62,990, an increase of $1,000 compared to the previous $61,990; the Model 3 rear-wheel drive version was not adjusted, still $46,990.

On April 2, Tesla released its first quarter 2022 delivery report, in which Tesla delivered more than 310,000 vehicles worldwide in the quarter, an increase of 67.7% year-on-year and 0.5% month-on-month.

According to China News Network, in the first quarter of 2022, Shanghai Gigafactory continued to stand as Tesla's global export center. Exports in January and February reached 40,500 and 33,315 vehicles respectively, and in January and February, domestic sales were 59,846 units and 56,515 vehicles, respectively, ranking firmly in the "50,000-vehicle club".

Last year, Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory delivered more than 160,000 vehicles to overseas markets, meeting the needs of more than 10 countries and regions in Europe and Asia.

It is worth noting that due to the impact of the epidemic, Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory was suspended for 4 days from March 28 to April 2, and strictly sealed and managed for 4 days. As early as mid-March, the plant also shut down for two days. According to the "China Times" reporter learned from the relevant people in Tesla's north district, when the Shanghai super factory will resume work is still waiting for further notice.

The Shanghai Gigafactory is extremely important to Tesla, and half of all the electric cars Tesla produced last year were produced in the Shanghai factory. Whether the current short suspension of production will affect Tesla's annual production and sales is still unknown.

The safety of new energy vehicles has attracted renewed attention

Since 2021, the new energy vehicle market has exploded. The information security, data compliance and safety of assisted driving functions of electric vehicles have become the focus of consumer attention.

In view of the large-scale recall of Tesla, the announcement shows that related quality problems may "cause the vehicle to lose driving power, and in extreme cases, may increase the risk of vehicle collision." Tesla responded to the China Securities News reporter that the relevant situation is "subject to the announcement of the General Administration.".
