A year has passed quickly, and in the blink of an eye, I have been working for a year at the Aiyou Yincheng Tongxin Cottage in the Department of Hematology of the Children's Hospital affiliated to Soochow University. For a year, there are trivial bits and pieces happening here every day, and every day I see one story after another about "life".

In the early summer of 2019, the father of a two-year-old child consulted on the matter of assistance because of a transplant, from application to review to grant and use, and I was in close contact with them for two months, which was the first person I met here.
Six months later, just before the New Year, the father came to the Tong Xin Hut again. He told me that the child had finally completed the six-month-long transplant treatment, but he would continue to run for the cost of the child's subsequent rejection treatment.
"Life is so light, like a feather floating so lightly in the palm of your hand."
This realization was due to a six-year-old girl who came to a relative's house in Suzhou with her family last summer and was diagnosed with fever the next day. Their family is particularly optimistic and positive, and others seem to be a heavy blow to their lives, as if it is just an unexpected episode in their lives. I have to admit that many times life is really more dramatic than drama. The little girl was very calm to face everything, when she came to the cottage, she folded one star after another with wishes in the wishing bottle, looking forward to the moment when life was back on track, and she was particularly sensible, which was particularly painful.

One stormy morning, the 11-year-old boy and mom and dad were referred by doctors to palliative treatment, and the soothing team invited them to a one-on-one interview. After a year of chemotherapy, at the moment of discharge, I thought that I finally ushered in the sunshine that could dispel the smog, but soon the news of recurrence came, and medical treatment was no longer able to save this child who had achieved excellent results before. The father's self-blame and guilt, the mother's sadness and strength, the child's silent sobs... Early the next morning, they began to go through the discharge procedures, and for the last part of their journey, they wanted to stay in their own home.
A year's time can make a family that was originally well-off fall into trouble, make a child who was originally sunny and lively become silent; it can also make a silent child re-willing to contact the world around them, so that a family can slowly adapt to and receive a long life of treatment.

Like those "accompanying" families, these parents and children who rent near the hospital, they face the examiner with a disease. Many of these children are beautiful and smart, they would have been in a classroom with a few windows, in a vibrant playground, in a park full of flowers; some of them were former class leaders, some of them had learned taekwondo before; some of these parents were barbers, some were teachers, some were workers, and they were originally alive, and they became patients and patients' families in the hospital.
Every day when I step into the hospital, there is always a feeling of being at a loss that more or less overflows from the bottom of my heart. I often ask myself, "What kind of role is a medical social worker?" What can be done to truly serve children and parents? What to do if you encounter a sudden emotional situation... ”
What makes me feel a little mournful is not all from the negative emotions hidden in the corner of the hospital, but more from the anxiety that I can't meet the expectations of the social worker role. Every day, I try to reframe myself, to re-understand myself, to reinvent myself. Whenever I tried to escape, those cute kids ran over and broke into my head.
While I was in the hospital with the children, they were also with me, with them, I did a lot of cute little things that I once wanted to do, but when I grew up, I didn't have time to do, and the unforgettable moments that made me unforgettable let me have a connection with these children, and I was associated with these living lives, and also let me feel the real self.
