An injured owl falls into the kindergarten, ending with a heart-warming ending

April 1 is International Bird Love Day, and today, we came to the Third Kindergarten of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (Dongsheng Branch) in Haidian District, Beijing.

Why come to this kindergarten? On the morning of March 14, not long ago, an eagle owl fell into the kindergarten. Eagle owl, one of the largest owls in the world, is a national second-level key protected wildlife. It is the top predator in the night sky, feeding on birds, frogs, snakes and small mammals.

Even birds of prey face many survival challenges: undernourished food, glass walls of cities, birdnets and slingshots for outlaws... When the kindergarten children and teachers found the eagle owl, it was no longer very flying. The kindergarten teacher found that it should be an owl, so he quickly called the Beijing Raptor Rescue Center.

After Zhou Lei, a rehabilitation engineer at the Beijing Raptor Rescue Center, arrived at the scene, she conducted a preliminary examination of the eagle owl and popularized the protection level, physical characteristics and habits of the eagle owl to the children present. "The 'ears' on the top of the eagle owl's head are actually called 'ear feather clusters', which are feathers used to communicate feelings, and the real ears are hidden under the feathers..."

After the rehabilitator took the eagle owl back to the rescue center, through a comprehensive examination, it found that its wing was fractured, presumably caused by a collision injury. On March 16, the rehabilitator performed bone grafting surgery on the eagle owl, which is currently recovering smoothly.

After the eagle owl was admitted to the rescue center, its injuries always touched the hearts of the kindergarten teachers and students. Children can keep abreast of the eagle owl's physical condition through video connection with the healer. In the classroom, the teacher also explained the scientific knowledge of wildlife conservation to the children.

At the scene, the children also proudly showed the reporter the carved owl hut, fine art works and handicrafts they made with their parents, and pinned their wishes on the eagle owl: early recovery! Get back to nature early!
